Wet your mascara with the KY Jelly you are allowed to be on board. Now really - can anyone explain a need for KY jelly during a flight? Is there some medical thing I'm not aware of.

The REAL reason that I am soooooo worrried about my being separated from my mascara, is that I know that if it is lost, I will never be able to buy another one in Paris. After all L'Oreal is an American brand!!

I know for a fact that there is NO Sephora store on the Champs that stays open until midnight and carries every brand imagineable. Department stores have NO cosmetic departments. Those poor French woman either have nothing lashes or they travel to England to buy mascara.

The thought of walking around Paris for a few weeks with less than perfect, long dark eyelashes, is enough to make me cancel my trip and stay home.

Ladies, I was spitting on cake mascara before a lot of you were born --- change that, before a lot of you were old enough to even know what it was

All I wanted to know, was why it was banned, no more and no less. Now I know - the container itself, not the contents. I guess I'll have to use my lid liner pencil to draw mustaches and glasses on snoring seatmates.

I'm thrilled that perfume is banned, I hate it when women spray themselves from top to bottom several times during the flight. Sneezeville for me, plus dozen of different fragrances in the same area, drive me nuts. Not to leave the gents out, I feel the same about after shave lotion on flights.

If I really did have 'mascara separation anxiety, I would simply apply so much at home that my lashes would stick together for two days.

Toothpaste, Afrin and nasal saline spray are my top priorities. After this thread, I just may give up mascara altogether.

And yes, I remember ladies spit on the solid cake of mascara. OR, you could mix it with some of the 4 oz. of saline solution you can bring on.

I saw make-up being sold all over the Parisien place!

On the KY issue - the way I understand it is that the KY is necesary for people with colostomy bags and things like that, so they let it on.

The "KY allowance" caused some giggling and curiosity here in my office when I found that on the TSA site last week - now, really, what could TSA be concerning itself with as an allowed onboard activity that has them saying, "sure, bring it on"...

and Nina66 - you're so right, that Sephora on Champs Elysees is indeed the 24 hour one (the other 8 or so close at 7:30) - we're starting next summer's trip in London, though - no Sephora! So, I'll find a department store the first morning, after skulking out of my hotel in big sunglasses, and get a free demo & make some purchases at a department store, I suppose, if foundation "etc" doesn't get there along with my checked bag.
But - I'll still be loving being overseas!
and I know we all rue, not just the restrictions, but the reason they're in place. Prayers here for what seems an unattainable peace.

Carrybean - you stole my next post I DO wear Jackie O sunglasses, rain or shine, day or night. That's why I rarely wear any eye makeup except when I'm going out and my eyes will be seen.

My large frames are old and I have my prescription changed as needed. My eye doctor has been trying for years to get me to buy new frames, saying that the large ones were no longer in style. Style-schmile, not me - I'm a comfort girl. I love them and will never part with them as long as the screws hold them together. Now they are back in style, good thing I waited! What goes around comes around.

For the record, I have dark lashes and dark brown eyes, so no Sharpie for me - just au natural if necessary.

Isn't that Sephora store on the Champs great ... Last year I walked away with even more small (and as yet unused) makeup bags - I am a self confessed travel accessory junkie.

Me and my Jackie O's will get along just fine.

Hearing about the cake mascara brings back memories! Seems like the cake mascara really gave the wearer raccoon eyes - wasn't it really clumpy on the eyelashes? Hopefully the newer products are less clumpy.

Reminds me of the observation a woman in my hometown years ago made about a young woman: "she just wears too much Maybelline!"

I think that because (in the words of my 96 y.o. mother-in-law) "A little powder, a little paint, make a lady what she ain't" lord knows what you'd turn into.

Nina, I just knew you'd be in style! Jo Ann, when I was in London in May I wandered into the MAC make-up section at Harrod's & they had these gals with what looked like Tim the Toolman aprons, armed with brushes & other tools of the trade. Got a totally new face free (except for what I wound up buying) so there's an alternative if your luggage with your make-up doesn't arrive.

I like the cake mascara...and best of all you can use it as an eyeliner too....of course you need a little spit and water..

Carrybean - MAC is my drug of choice. Sephora on the Champs has absolutely the best selection of MAC.

In my recent SF trip report about DH's visiting relatives from Germany. I mentioned I took the mother and the 12 daughter to the MAC counter at Nordstroms MAC counter to have their eyes done. I am spreading the gosphel of MAC all over the world. Well not all over the world, but to Hemstadt and Neubrunn Germany.

Read the Style section of today's NY Times (or look it up on the internet). They had an entire article on what kind of makeup you're allowed, as of today, to take onboard a plane.

Unfortunately, though, the author reglected to mention any tips for spitting into cake mascara.

Nina, I don't know that MAC is sold where I live but the products I got I absolutely loved, especially the under-eye concealer pencil. I'm not going to be a happy camper if I have to pack that stuff in my checked luggage next spring when I next go to London if all this TSA security rules are still so strict.

Why not take some powdered eye shadow for your eyes? Mascara and eyeliner would smear anyway on an overnight flight. By the time I deplane I look like a racoon who has lived a hard life.
