I went through the full-body scan and still had to have a pat-down because of my knee replacements.

I work as an international flight attendant and have two total knee replacements. I have to have a pat down every time I go through a screening unless it is one of the newer screeners where you just hold your arms above your head.The international screeners across the world are used to it so just inform them of your knee situation before going through.

Even with a whole-body scan I still have to go through the pat-down afterward. Perhaps it varies with the airport?

At my 6 wk. post op. the surgeon told me I do not need any
paperwork or special clearance when I go through security.
His wife has two bionic hips and she receives no special
attention. Now a pacemaker...

In the USA,there are no special exemptions,clearance or paperwork just because you have implants.As the TSA says, anyone can get a doctor's note so they don't care!

Hello all - since placing this question in the forum I have traveled within the US with no problem regarding knee replacement. Once I did have pat down, but that didn't take too long. I guess I was more concerned about being 1 of 60 people in the tour group and getting separated for a pat down, but as long as I'm within eyesight of everyone I can handle it.
