second home in Norway -- where would you buy?

This is very much at the daydream stage at the moment, but my husband harbours a dream of owning a little place in Norway. In the fjords if possible -- but we're open to buying somewhere near a university or college so that we might be able to rent out to students during the school year.

If you had the opportunity to buy an apartment, condo or cottage in Norway, where would you buy and why?

Probably Stavanger, Oslo or Bergen. Stavanger is a beautiful area - we liked the town also.

If it were just for myself I would like Lake Kroderan area around Noresund.

Jaysfan: I was impressed with Alesund and environs...at fjord's mouth....handsome art nouveau architecture...medium sized..For the larger cities, Bergen is #1 for us....striking beauty wherever one turns...big university, campus on a hill overlooking the city/harbor. (But, I think we'll stay put in Southern Calfornia).
