Norway trip
We plan to visit norway soon for a period of 8-9 nights. We are a family of four and would like to do the trip on our own but we are unable to decide which places to visit and how to plan our domestic transport.
I would highly appreciate any suggestions for the same.
Thank you,

Car or train -with family I'd go for car and do Oslo and Bergen/fjords area - but trains and boats run everywhere too - for lots of stuff about them in Norway - www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.
The Norway in a Nutshell loop is awesome:

Easy to do on your own or by group tour. We saw whales!

If you decide to see the fjord country by car, you do not need to do the Norway in a Nutshell package. You'll see plenty of fjords and use enough ferries on your own. I wrote a trip report about our trip to Norway which started in Oslo, did the NIN to Bergen, and then rented a car to drive from Bergen to Trondheim. If interested, click on my name to find it. The reference to the slide show does not work anymore, so here are the pictures of that trip: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mksfca...7623070576316/

Thanks guys,
I would like to mention that we would be flying in from India and landing in Oslo. I did visit the websites mentioned by PalenQ and read the trip report by Michael. Very helpful. Still going through them.
Would visiting Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim be a good enough trip or are they all main cities. And should we look at other towns. Any suggestions most welcome.
Secondly, would a driving holiday work out cheaper than using public transport ?
In Oslo, i have heard that walking is fine but how doI commute from one city to another.
Thirdly, we would like to see theAtlantic road in Northwest Norway. How do we get there ?
Northern lights not possible till November, right ?

Those are all fairly large but pleasant cities -I think with your wishes you should drive leaving Oslo - do the awesomely scenic drive to Bergen and fjords and work way north to Trondheim area.
