Searched threads, still need help in Rome

Going to Rome in June with my DH and 16 yr. old daughter and booked the Albergo del Senato thanks to all of you. However, I must have lost my mind when I booked a suite for $495 US Dollars. They have a room that can accomodate a rollaway for $411 but they said it is VERY small. I really want to spend around $400 max per night. Can anyone suggest another lovely well located hotel? The Dei Mellini Hotel has been suggested. Any help would be appreciated.

You could look into ALBERGO SANTA CHIARA, which is just behind the Pantheon, so roughly same area as ALBERGO DEL SENATO. You could also check HOTEL MOXART, which is close to the Spanish steps.

Small rooms are pretty typical in many European cities, but good luck!

Teatro Pace 33 just off the Piazza Navona was formerly a residence for cardinals and is full of charm. For under $400 per night, you could get two rooms.

You may want to consider an apartment...I would think it would be much less expensive than $495 per night.

margyb, thanks for your suggestion. I have done the apt. thing previously for longer stays and it was wonderful. This time I want my bed made, and breakfast served, if you know what I mean! Rome has certainly gotten expensive, especially in June!

I was in Rome in February and picked up some brochures (which I now can't find) but I did stick this information in my computer. Check the websites - perhaps they'll be in your range.

The View at the Spanish Steps
Via dei Condotti, 91
Tel: 06 69 92 56 57
http://www.theviewatthespanishsteps.com

Hotel Panama Garden
Via Salaria, 336
Tel: 06 855 25 58
http://www.hotelpanamagarden.com

Facing the park of Villa Ada, this hotel has fifty rooms

Hotel Morgana
Via Filippo Turati, 29/37
Tel: 06 446 72 30
http://www.hotelmorgana.com

Recently renovated, this hotel has one hundred rooms. The décor reminds me more of a British hotel than a Roman one.

Hi S,

When I was planning my last trip I looked into the Del Senato based on recommendations here. It was certainly beyond my budget. So, I used venere.com to find a hotel that suited me. You can sort by price, see what looks good, use the search to put in the hotel's name and see what the Fodorites think.

There are tons of threads here on "reasonable" Rome hotels. From my frame of reference $495/night is not "reasonable".

Buon viaggio!
