What a coincidence! I just put together some info for a nice couple that e-mail me directly inquiring about a border town inn I stayed last May.

Abbey Bridge Inn.
The address is http://www.hotelworld.com/nonsubscri...e.fcgi?n=s9140
(you can make a booking/reservation at this address).

Just in case, the following is some of the info available:
The Abbey Bridge Inn
Lanercost, Brampton Cumbria
CA8 2HG
United Kingdom
Tel No: (016977) 2224
Fax No: (016977) 2224
Number of Rooms: 7
Single Room Prices From: 23 British Pounds
This inn is in a superb setting on the banks of the River Irthing amid the Borders' gently rolling fells. Proprietor Philip Sayers is an authority on `real ale', and up to 15 real ales are offered every week. The rooms in the hotel are attractively furnished in shades of bright pastel. The excellent cuisine attracts local and foreign tourists visiting Hadrian's Wall and the many other nearby attractions.
Facilities
Car Parking
Conference Facilities (up to 15 delegates)
Disabled Facilities
Golf
Horse Riding
Pets Allowed
Sailing
Location Information
Nearby Town: Brampton 2 miles

Again, very close to very interesing points of Hadrian's Wall, across the street from Lanercost Priory (http://www.cumbria1st.com/History/lanpri.htm) and from Naworth Castle (http://www.britain.co.uk/pages/N/NAW82HFiA.html).

Hope this helps!!

In Berwick upon Tweed is the Marshall Meadows Country House---one of the few hotels in that area. Trains leave hourly for Waverley in Edinburgh and it's a two stop ride. Very good food at the hotel which is out in the country a bit, but an easy taxi ride to the train station.

All three are WONDERFUL. No one has yet mentioned Sunlaws - it is widely rated as one of the best country hose hotels in all of Scotland.

If you are looking in these up-market price ranges you can't go wrong with any of the 3. BUT you can find very nice places for much less.
