Scavi tour confirmation??

On August 10th I faxed a request to reserve 4 tickets for the Scavi tour of the Necropolis in late September. I included information about the place in which we will be staying while we are in Rome. I sent an email requesting a confirmation but it came back as undeliverable. As of yet I have not heard whether or not our reservations have been confirmed. Should I assume that these reservations have been made? Is there any way of knowing that we will have the reservations when we get there? Any help from those of you who have taken the tour will be appreciated.

I took this tour in Sept. '02. I e-mailed my request for 2 people. When they responded via e-mail, they confirmed 1 person. They never responded to my second e-mail. Luckily, we were there a day before we were supposed to take the tour, so we were able to go talk to them and clarify if we had one reservation or two, and they did have two people written down.
However, I needed my e-mail as proof to get past the Swiss guards and go talk to the men handling the reservation. At the same time, I had also faxed asking for a tour of the Vatican gardens. I never received a response from that. The day that we checked on the scavi tour, we also asked at the post office/gift shop/visitor center if we had reservations or not. Unfortunately we did not. If you are standing in front and looking at St. Peter's, this shop is on the left.

So, I guess my answer is that you probably will not know until you get there. If you do get to go, you are not allowed to take bags in with you, although they did not seem to mind my medium size purse. They do have an area where you can check your bag(s). It is a very interesting tour and we were very glad that we were able to see it. I hope that this helps.

I wouldn't assume you have a reservation. It does take quite a while. We sent in our request on May 23, and finally got the email confirmation on July 10. This was for a tour on September 20. So, I think you'll just have to wait and see if you get the confirmation. If you don't get it, you can certainly go when you get there and try to get in.

kathinfl and almesq- I looked up the email on a second website. For some reason the first email address I used was [email protected]; that one did not work. The second email address was [email protected]; that one seems to have worked. I asked for a confirmation of my fax. Hopefully they will send one. Thanks for your help
