scanning old photos

I have several albums full of photos that I would like to digitize. I would prefer to leave them in the albums so I assume I will need to scan them by hand. Any suggestions?

Sorry for being unclear. I want to be able to produce CDs with the images (as a keepsake) and would also like to be able to view the images on my computer. Are there hand scanners that would allow me to pick the best photos out of each album without taking the albums apart?

A camera shop or a place like Costco will scan the negatives for about what it would cost to print them.
Otherwise, if you want good reproductions you will need to take the photos out of their sleeves and scan each one.

You could go to WalMart at a really slow time of day (or night) and scan them yourself, one at a time, and then burn them to a CD. It would be quite a project, but results will be good.

If you have a flat-bed scanner, you could lay the album on it and scan the whole page.
Or you could lay the album open (flat) and then take digital photos of the pages.
These are suggestions for just trying to preserve the albums digitally, but not so great for actual individual photo images.
