To my mind, some roads work better in one direction than the other, and I feel that the natural direction to drive the D751 is into Saumur. Coming from Saumur, you are past the interesting things before you see them and you could spend a lot of time looking back over your shoulder while travelling a narrow road with traffic calming features.
That said, the D751 does give you a couple of things: the Musée du Champignon that was discussed here recently, and the church at Cunault. If either of those interests you, you could take the D751 as far as Gennes, cross the bridge there, and continue on the D952, with a much easier run into Angers.
If lunch needs to be considered, then I recommend that you stop at Les Rosiers. Then toss a coin: heads for Au Val de Loire; tails for La Toque Blanche.
