Saumur to Angers - scenic driving route?
Should we take D952 or D751?
|
D952: no contest.
|
<i>"no contest."</i>
My kind of answer, straight and to the point!! That's the route we'll take then. Thanks so much, Padraig. |
What if I were to say "D751: no contest"?
I am not going to, though. I think we took D952 ( and enjoyed it) but I have no basis for comparison. Padraig- why D952? |
good point, rs899 :)

To my mind, some roads work better in one direction than the other, and I feel that the natural direction to drive the D751 is into Saumur. Coming from Saumur, you are past the interesting things before you see them and you could spend a lot of time looking back over your shoulder while travelling a narrow road with traffic calming features.
That said, the D751 does give you a couple of things: the Musée du Champignon that was discussed here recently, and the church at Cunault. If either of those interests you, you could take the D751 as far as Gennes, cross the bridge there, and continue on the D952, with a much easier run into Angers. If lunch needs to be considered, then I recommend that you stop at Les Rosiers. Then toss a coin: heads for Au Val de Loire; tails for La Toque Blanche. |
Thank you, Padraig, for your details and restaurant recommendations.
Via Michelin also lists D952 as the "scenic" route to take. |
