Sardinia — where to stay and what to do
My wife and I are going to Sardinia in late July. We love beaches, hiking, and great food. We are really looking for a relaxing and r and r kind of vacation. As of now we are staying 7 nights on the southeast coast at La Villa del Re near Costa Rei. The hotel looks very nice and gets very high ratings. Are we better off staying 5 nights there and 2 nights in another part of the island? If so, what do you recommend? Also any suggested hikes, restaurants, trips, things to see in the southeast would be appreciated. Thanks!

Beaches around Villasimius are fine. I suppose you will have a car. The closest interesting archeological places are Barumini and Isili. You may also visit the archeological museum at Cagliari. Roads in the area are rather small and windy and there will be much traffic between mid July and mid August.
Sardinia is not a hiking destination. You will not find signmarked and signposted trails like in Corsica.

It is a big island. You will want a car. We visited last fall, and, since we live in Florida, out visit was less about beaches and more about getting familiar with this spectacular island. Either way, you will love it. Here is our trip report: Sardinia! You Gotta Go!! 8 nights. October
