I am planning a trip this August for 1 week and would love any info at all! There will be 4 of us (2 adults; 2 13-year-olds).

We stayed at the Hotel Formentor on the North East corner of the island. It was GORGEOUS and they were great with our kids (2 & 4). They have 2 pools (one heated) and lots of beautiful beaches. We had two adjoining rooms which made it nice. We ate one dinner at the hotel and then drove to Pollenca most of the other nights for dinner. Watch out - August is high season for Mallorca so it will be very busy. The hotel was a 1.5 hour drive from Palma -we rented a car.

I have friends who want us to join them early next summer in Majorca. I'm from Florida and not into beaches at all -- could care less about them, in fact, especially on vacation. Is there still plenty of reason to go there without the beaches?

Patrick, I stayed 4 nights in Deia last May and never went to the beach. Deia is a lovely, relaxing place. Not a lot to do, but it was the end of a long trip and perfect for us. There are many lovely villages to explore if you want and the food was wonderful.

Hi from Mallorca. First, it will be busy on august, for sure. But nothing to worry about for US standars. The island is definitely worth the trip, not only for the beaches ( from very small "calas" to unspoiled 4 miles ones ) but for picturesque villages, a breathtaking northern coast ( very similar to California's Sta Barbara-Monterey ), and a beautiful inland. Once it was called La Isla de la Calma, nowadays, still can find the meaning if you now how. Try www.visitbalears.com and good luck. P.S. I am going to Mallorca at the end of this month (June) and will be staying in Sóller for 4 nights. I will post a report when I get back!

I have a chance to go to Mallorca in December, and stay at the Residencial Cala Pi Nou, in Cala Pi. I'm told that this is the low season, and that, "things will be very quiet". I don't mind a lack of crowds, but if everything is closed up, that would be another matter. Is it just too cold in December, i.e would this be a bad idea? Thanks for any info.

Presume you are timeshare swappers. Look, December is not the best choice. We were there in Feb and it was raining and windy. Having said that, since we had hired a car there was plenty to do. Cala Pi is pretty isolated and, yes, much will be closed. No car - no go!!
You will forget the beaches (other than for strolling) but focus on the sights (the NW mountains and especially Formentor peninsula). Get out into the small villages and eat at the local taverns. If you want a gourmet meal in a great setting, go to Olivo in Deia. Do a day trip in Palma. Stock up at the huge supermarket near the airport (ask at the car hire). Try fuet salamis and manchego cheese. A nice chardonnay is Raimat. If you are bird-watchers, search the web - we clocked up a number of "lifers".

So, if you like walking, eating and looking, a week will keep you happy. If its sun, beaches and beers on the terrass - forget it. If you have teenage kids, CHANGE NOW.
PS: The timeshare itself is good by European standards.
