Sardinia guidebook recom

Hi, Has anyone used a guidebook in Sardinia that they liked? Looking at the Amazon site,I didn't get a clear idea of which might be best to plan a trip there. Thanks for sharing your recommendations.

Rough Guide to Sardinia is very good for the independent traveller using public transportation.

Cadogan's Guide to Sardinia is good for the independent traveller using a car.

We used several to be honest with you. I'm not sure there is a best one in this case. If you'd like to see what we ended up doing, we posted a trip report on our blog: www.hitherandthither.net

Happy travels!

Recently, when I was planning a trip to Sardegna I ended up not taking, I stumbled across this website, and thought it was fascinating, with incredible details about the island.

We used the Lonely Planet guidebook for Sardinia and thought it was good. The LP books tend to be very practical with good maps which I like.

alovesa,
I LOVED your trip report!!! Your photos are amazing....very creative. I especially like the one of you in the water the day you chartered a boat....and I had to show my husband the knives photo because he loves to buy locally made knives when we travel. I read it quickly, but will study it in more detail as I get into trip planning. I saw that you also went to Corsica. We're planning to visit that island as well on this trip. P.S. Did you know D. Depratt when you were at UC Davis....she's my niece.

zeppole, thanks so much for that website reference. I will definitely refer to it!

KayF, thanks for the Lonely Planet reference.

I don't know why it's so hard to find information about Sardinia! Looking forward to going next September.

Hi barefootbeach, in case you haven't seen it, if you click on my name 'KayF' you can read my trip report of Sardinia and a daytrip to Corsica. It's from earlier this year. You might get a bit of info to add to what you already have. Good luck with the research.

When I went to Sardinia 10 yrs ago we used a combo of guide books - the Cadogan guide and the Rough Guide. They each have their strengths. I've never been a huge fan of LP, but I know a lot of people like them.

Thanks for referring me to your trip report KayF....I'll check into the Hotel Marino and appreciate the reviews of the 3 beach towns.

telechick,
I also like the Rough Guides and will check out the Cadogan.

I've already bought the Footprint and DK Eyewitness Travel books, but I tend to overread when I travel so will probably get more.

I also found the Budget Travel article on Secrets of Sardinia, Sept. 2010.

Now have to start reading!
