There is a great restaurant in the town, not on the water, but absolutly the best in the area. We have a house there and go quite frequently (I live in Milan). It's called "Oca Bianca" which means "White Goose". It's in Santa Margarita and your hotel should provide you with the number and make reservations. It's owned by a young (30's), very goodlooking husband and wife who have been in the restaurant biz for generations. Very intimate and romantic and you eat so very well! Charming.
They don't have seafood, and I think they are the only restaurant on the coast that doesn't. They speak english too. It's my favorite in the world!
Then if you make it into Portofino there is a restaurant called "Tripoli" which serves pesto pasta, which is specific to this regione, and won't cost you an arm and a leg. Maybe just a foot.(J/K). It is one the square and you have wonderful people watching and yacht inspecting.
Enjoy Melissa

Oca Biana was the best restaurant we ate at the entire trip. Pricey but worth it. The owner's Dad runs La Stalla which is in the hills above Santa Margarita. Both are the best restaurants in town.

Bacin is a more inexpensive place right off the waterfront. They had really good table wine of all things.

Melissa - a big thank you to you for your recommendation of Oca Bianca. We ate there about 2 weeks ago and it was our favorite restaurant of our trip. The service was wonderful, as was the food. It took us about an hour to leave after we had asked for the check because of all of the surprises they had for us (dessert, dessert wine and limoncello)!

We enjoyed a couple of meals at Baicin (off via Pescino). The ravioli with walnut sauce is outstanding. This is a family-owned, inexpensive, quaint ristorante.
Il Nostromo, Faro, Frantoio were recommened to me, but I didn't have a meal in any of them.
Santa Margherita is a lovely town.
