Salzburg dinner theatre attire

What is common dress attire for an evening musical dinner theatre in Salzburg, Austria? We don't have tickets to one but hope to find one to attend upon our arrival tomorrow or the next night.

Dinner theatre? What exactly do you mean? Surely you aren't talking about a regular evening of buffet dinner followed by a musical comedy or play? I'm unaware that such things exist outside the US and Canada, but I'm willing to be proven wrong.
There are interesting concerts, marionette shows, and possibly other events in Salzburg, but I guess we'd have to know what kind of specific performance you're thinking of.

Well, maybe I should take some recommendations on night activities in Salzburg too then. I know Salzburg offers the Sound of Music dinner show but not sure if it's any good or not. From what I understand, the Marionette Theater won't be running qutie yet and I'm certain I'd fall asleep during a classical concert. There will be two of us moms getting away from our four children and two husbands for two nights (we live in Germany so this is a quick jaunt over).

I believe poster asks about the several evening concerts with dinner. Prior poster probably does not know about these well known concert evenings.
They can be found at the St. Peters Stiftkeller, the Fortress ( Festungkonzerte) dinner and a Mozart concert.

Many tourists seem to enjoy them . Both in a very nice atmosphere.

Check with your hotel or The Tourist office,

Perhaps others too.

OK, I just never think of a concert as being "theatre", particularly "dinner theatre". Just a difference of terms I guess.
Back to your original question about dress. I can't imagine that whatever you're talking about you won't see everything from dressy to jeans at nearly any kind of event. Nice slacks and blouse or sweater? A dress? Wear what makes you comfortable.

Well, I am six months pregnant with our 3rd so comfortable is athletic pants and a t-shirt. Just trying to decide on a skirt or dress pants. I'm sure anything is probably acceptable. Just wanted to check with others who have gone.

I wore a black turtleneck sweater and a long black skirt in March of 2004. As I recall, I also wore a silver necklace. Others were reasonably well dressed but no sequins. Dress pants will be fine.

I've been to both the Festung and Skiftskeller dinner concerts and the Mirabell concert. You will see a range of dress from relatively formal to relatively relaxed. I wouldn't go in jogging clothes, but decent slacks and a blouse/sweater for women and slacks/shirt/tie for men wouldn't be out of line at all.

Then you may be the person to answer this question: which of the three would you recommend? We have two nights in Salzburg and want to visit at least one of these.

Best evening event???

I'd say the best combination of music, food and ambiance is Skiftkeller St. Peters. If we could only go to one, that's the one we'd select. Enjoy.

I meant Stiftskeller--what is it that's so difficult about spelling that one right?

Anyway, here is the website if you need it:

We went to the St. Peters Stiftkeller concert in February this year and loved it-even my daughter who is doing a music degree. Would suggest you book tickets to this beforehand-it was well and truly full house the night we went. I reserved them by internet and paid for them on the night(by credit card). I think they were the same price that I would have paid if buying them in Austria. I found the food quite bland but the ambience was great. You sit next to complete strangers which can be interesting in itself as most of the other people on your table are also travellers and tend to be friendly and make the effort to converse.BTW the ticket includes meal and show -drinks extra and very very expensive. The water was more expensive than the wine! In terms of dress I would wear something reasonably nice but not over the top- remember you are seated behind a table. Another tip- arrive earlier rather than later so that you can sit facing where the singers are! Also make sure that you take a camera that you can take photos without a flash!

Weattended one of the well-known concerts at the St Peters a couple of years ago. There wa a variety of dress; some of the men had on sport coats with buttoned-up shirts without neckties. Overall it seemed to be more or less "dressy casual" if that is the proper term.

Patrick: do get over yourself on this...we know you love to paint those flats but you're beginning to sound like a drama queen in the worst sense of the word.

I escorted a group of 31 high school students to the St. Peter's Stiftskeller dinner theater in Salzburg a few weeks ago. It was an incredible experience. The evening activities and menu is available online and I encourage you to view it. Reservations are recommended. Our evening was sold out. The room holds about 200 people. With respect to dress, any peoper evening attire will work. A nice top with dressier pants or a skirt will have you fit in comfortably. There were a few "jeans wearers", but they did look out of place. I encourage you to show up about 30 minutes early to provide for good seating arrangements. This concert was the highlight of our 15 days in Europe and an event my students will never forget. If this post is too late for srice, it may be able to assist others. P.S. I doubt you will fall asleep during this concert.
