Saint Petersburgh in winter
I've read some comments about safety issues and am wondering if anyone has had recent experiences traveling to Saint Petersburgh that might offer tips of what to do, or what to avoid while there. Also, did anyone experience any problems getting into or out of, the country? I'm sure I'm being overly concerned, but a daughter will be there later this winter.

Winter is really a off season. It is cold, windy and snow or rain. Most of attractions are better in summer- all the palaces with gardens and fountans. But the Hermitage in Winter Palace still must see. Avoid public transportation during the rush hours, very crowded. Just take same precoutions as you would visiting any big city, have a "grip" on your money and you will be OK.

thank you Underhill for your help, and thank you Snubes, for your advice. This daughter is very travel savy, having been to all the continents by her mid twenties! I know I'm a worry wart, but I read the U.S. travel advisory, and it had me concerned. My daughter already has tickets for the ballet, and intends to get to the Hermitage, as well as one or two other places, and is only there for three days. However, I will worry till she's back 'home' in London.......
