Actually, the Terdam is not technically a Best Western - in Europe, BW's are just another way to book certain hotels (don't even know if they have to meet certain standards, but it seems so). Each hotel retains its own distinct original style, not the typical American BW style at all. So even if you choose to book a hotel via BW, you will be staying at a 'character' property.

I just stayed at the AMS Museum hotel at 2 PC Hooftstraat...kiddie corner Rijksmuseum. The single rooms are small but the location is excellent. the rate was approx. 95/euro /night. Breakfast included. Staff is excellent. My initial room looked out over nothing...a wall that was it. Very depressing and I asked to be switched and was accomodated with courtesy and professionalism. I would stay there again in a heartbeat...just not in a single room. Very central to just about everything you could want. Then I stayed at the Doelen Hotel at the Niewe Doelen straat...this one was even better. walking distance to Dam Square, kalverstraat (a shopping street), and central to many tram and bus lines too.<BR>Have a nice trip.
