On the way from Shannon to Galway, stop at Lahinch Golf Links: a Golfing Union of Ireland (GUI) Course. They should be able to help you out there.
BTW
Are you aware that the Golfing Union of Ireland predates the St. Andrews Royal & Ancient Golf Organization?? Golf is an Irish Sport!

I don't know if you'll need tickets for the 18th & maybe 19th (Practice rounds).

I have an Ireland Golf magazine somewhere around here. If I can find it, I will post telephone numbers of some likely sources.

The back of the Irish Times (in the personals columns) has several advertisements for tickets - mainly corporate packages at ridiculous prices, but it might be worth a shot.

PS If you have any luck getting regular-priced tickets, let me know - I applied for the lottery but wasn't successful!

Try a Google search on Ryder Cup 2006.
I was amazed at the prices: totally out of my ball park. I'll watch as much as I can on the 'tube' and save my money for actually playing golf rather than watching it. That way I won't feel cheated when a golfer wins 3-up with 2 to play (match play).

There are a lot of 'packages' available including accomodations & tickets.

I didn't mean to intentionally mislead you in my first post with my comments about Sep 18th & 19th. I have since learned that the Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for 18 Sep.

NED:
The Opening Ceremonies are Thursday, September 21.

Hannab: Good luck with tickets. My nephew is on the team and I've asked my sister if she knows the best place to buy tickets. I'll let you know when I hear back.

Please post a trip report when you return!

OK, just had an email from sis. She knows someone who was seeking tickets a month ago and "it was too late to get any tickets without joining a planned Ryder Cup tour".

You need tickets for the practice rounds as well. Try craigslist.org

You will most likely have to pay way above face value.
