Ryanair takes double hit
Ryanair loses in a court ruling regarding Strasbourg airport. The low cost airline will now stop flying Strasbourg and will probably start using the Baden-Baden airport, about 40 km away. A similar fight over Ryanair's flights to Charleroi is looming.

In another hit, the EU is sticking to its guns regarding high compensation for passengers who are bumped from overbooked flights. Ryanair has been one of the biggest opponents to the proposal (but was not the only airline to object).

Oh No! I hope they don't discontinue flying out of Charleroi!
My family has already bought tickets for a flight to Venice in March. Will our money be refunded if they do not fly out of this airport?
Are there other inexpensive flights to Venice out of Charleroi or Brussels airports?
Thank you for your help. Laurie

Laurie,
Re eventual refund: here's an article that was published after Ryanair announced they would stop flying to/from Ostend.

No other inexpensive flights from Belgium to Venice. Belgium is a bit discriminated at this point. Too bad. We ourselves had planned on flying to Rome in March ...

Myriam, Thank you for the link to the article. It sounds like we would get our money back.
How likely is it that RyanAir will stop flying out of Charleroi? We will be flying to Venice in late March.
If we cannot fly from Charleroi to Venice, what are our other options?I wouldn't mind flying from another airport or take a train. We need find an inexpensive way to get to Venice. We have to get to Venice since we fly home from there.
Please help!! I'm just not sure what to do. Thank you! Laurie

Laurie,
First of all, it's not yet sure that Ryanair will stop flights to Charleroi, so no panic yet.
In the worst case, I think flying from Cologne (Germany) to venice with Hapag Lloyd would be the cheapest option (still much more expensive than Ryanair).
A Dutch cheap carrier, Basiqair, will start to fly to Treviso (Venice) as from March 28th.
