Transfers At Brussels Airport

Quick question. I have flown into Brussels airport several times as a final destination, but have never connected there. We are flying American to Brussels connecting to British Air into Venice. When we make our connection will we stay in the secure area and simply go to another gate, or are we required to do immigration control then off to our connecting gate? Any info is so greatly appreciated.

Just a topper in case anyone cares to answer - thanks. It was getting buried pretty deep in the masses

Yes, you will have to go through immigration before going to your connecting flight.

Just a question:
Are you sure you are connecting at Brussels to British Airways to Venice? They don't have a direct flight between the two - ba.com only gives a connecting flight via Gatwick. Do you mean Brussels Airlines? They fly twice daily from Brussels International (BRU) to Venice (VCE). They have a codeshare agreement with AA.
What happens is your luggage will be through-checked to VCE. When you get to BRU, as it's your entry point to Schengen, you go through passport control, and as you have arrived from outside EU/EEA, you go through security before you get to your gate for the Venice flight. Just remember the EU rule about carrying liquid on board - any liquid you've bought at Chicago duty free, unless it's 100ml (around 3ozs) or less and in a transparent plastic ziploc bag, will be confiscated.
