RV in Germany
I am travelling for about 3 weeks in Germany, Austria and Switzerland next September. I was wondering if there was a way to rent an RV as opposed to car, wherein I could be freed from trying to link hotels and itinerary.
If there is such a possibility, any knowledge of restrictions of use. I guess I am thinking of my trip to Alaska wherein the RV was perfect for such explorations.

I would hate to rain on your parade, but you ought to be aware that Germany is densely populated. Thus, it is rare that you will be able to locate spots for spending the night where camping is prohibited other than regular campgrounds.
These campgrounds in turn are pretty densely frequented, too, which might result in not too much room for privacy and for the more popular ones even the need to book ahead.
This again appears what you are trying yourself to spare...

In Germany and Austria you may park your RV (meaning Wohnmobil in German) on any street or any parking lot for 24 hours.
There may be exceptions for some cities. Vienna for example does not allow RVs within the first district.
You will find a map of European "Campingplätze" on

Not sure if you have been to europe before - but you shold be aware that roads are often very narrow (esp in some of the midieval towns), parking spots very small - and some city centers may not allow caravans (as noted above).
So, besides needing to locate and make reservations at appropriate campgrounds - you will in some instances have to park the caravan on the outskrts and take public transport into the cities/towns.
