Russ, Harzar Help with Frankfurt!
Hi Russ:
Blast from the past! I have not been to active at Fodors these days but now I need some help!
Late decision to attend Fair in Heimtextile in January 2005
Looking for rec's on accomodations near the grounds or on the ubahn/sbahn line a short distance away.
Business class would be great! I need to bang away at these hotels because most are booked already!
Any thoughts???
Thanks to everyone for trying to help!
JOHN

Hi, John. I really don't know much about Frankfurt accommodations. The Messe grounds are pretty close to the main train station, correct? If you're willing to travel a few more than 20 minutes, you might look into staying in Mainz instead. There's a good Ibis hotel which I've used before about 1.5 blocks from the Mainz Sud train station (the first one after crossing the Rhine, not the main station), which runs S-Bahn and RE trains into Frankfurt's main station in 30-35 minutes' time. Accommodations in Mainz are generally less expensive than F'furt, and it's a more laid-back, pleasant sort of place to bed down.

Thanks Russ! I think I asked this question once before a few years ago! (found an old thread) Anyway, Mainz sounds like an option as long as I can have easy access to the train in and out of Frankfurt! What is that hotel name, Ibis?
Thanks again and I hope everything is going well for you!

If all is lost you might look at the Aschaffenburgerhof, a block from the station in Aschaffenburg. It's a very nice hotel in a very pleasant city. Also try the Post Hotel and the Wildermann but they are further from the station. Aschaffenburg is about half an hour to Frankfurt Hbf by ICE, but longer on other trains. From Frankfurt Hbf it is a ten minute walk to the Messe.

Hi Russ:
Ibis Hotel: Is this the one on Holzhofstrasse? The price is too good to be true!
I have no problem with staying here. But do you have any thoughts about if a business associate (women) stays here as well?
All I ask is a clean room with a good breakfast!

Do a search in the little towns surrounding F such as Mühlheim (there are several places here at the $80 level), Hanau, Bad Homburg, Bad Vilbel ...
These are all on S-Bahn and there is quite an industry catering for the smart traveller.

Thanks Harzar! The festival pricing is quite impressive! I see the hotels go 1 1/2 times the rack rate!
When your looking at spending between $150 and $200 USD you wonder what type of property you will be getting in Frankfurt!
I will search out those areas
Question: I wonder how late the s-bahn and regular rail trains run? I keep seeing timetables that seem to stop around 19:30 That would pose a problem if I had to take a late dinner with a client! AM I missing something here?

As far as I can tell the S-Bahn/U-Bahn network operates daily from 04.00 to 01.30,with trains as a rule arriving every 3-4 minutes on the heavy-traffic lines and 10 minutes on outer-suburban lines.
But can you get into your hotel at 1.30am?
