Rubles or Euros in Russia?
We've been advised that American traveler's checks are not readily accepted in Russia. Other than American dollars, what type of cash is better to carry, Rubles or Euros? Does anyone have additional advice regarding money in Russia? Thank you.

All of the above answers are correct. I add that many Russians keep their own savings in US Dollars, and that is the best currency to carry. Most places will not take dollars as payment, but there are many currency exchanges where you can get a good rate.

The best way of obtaining cash (at least in Moscow/St Petersburg) is with an ATM card, but I recommend you to bring at least three-four days of money in USD in case of problems with the ATM network.

Euros are not nearly as accepted as USD so consequently the exchange rate is not as good. Also, it is generally impossible to buy rubles outside of Russia.
