I've stayed in a 12 sq/m room in Paris. It wasn't horrible. However, now I usually upgrade to the next room level for more space. I found that the lack of room didn't bother me that much, but sleeping fairly close to the door did. In that small of a room, there isn't much space between bed and door.

Falafelball:

We found this property almost by accident one time and have since been back, and sent family members a few times...it had been completely done over in mod, contemporary fashion, elevator, knock-out bar and rates in the vicinity of 200 euro..and excellent location on the western fringes of the Marais (across from City Hall square)....in fact, just two blocks from where you can get pita with your falafel ball!

Mr. Tower this looks good! I have checked this hotel now and their rates are much higher on our dates. Will try to contact them by email for a better offer maybe.

The Georges V has some very large rooms.

They will cost you though.

It all depends on what you are used to. In NYC apartments many "master" bedrooms are 12 X 14 and kids rooms are often 10 X 10. If you are from another part of the country - where land is cheap -than hotel rooms are often very much larger.

And, as with european hotel rooms, you can get larger ones in NYC (hotel or apt) but they cost more.

I don't mind a smallish room if only staying for one night. For more than that I want to be comfortable when we go back to the room to rest and change before dinner - so we always get something with an alcove or room for a sofa or ??? but - it does cost more. You get what you pay for (if you're lucky).

And the OP has to decide between size and cost.
