hi oldmyst,

So sorry that happened it to you on tripadvisor! They've already pulled his posts, though.
A similar thing happened to me with a really strange poster who was using bad spelling/grammar and they pulled his/hers without me even reporting it.

I'm getting sort of discouroaged with tripadvisor. I love the hotel reviews, but it's so hard because now I feel I always have to read between the lines.

Dina

Hi Dina, You are right about people using Trip Advisor to promote their own businesses. It is disheartening. I stayed at a great hotel in Rome, and used a tour group, and nobody asked me to promote them on trip advisor. All of my postings have been to give back to the Fodorites and the people on Trip Advisor who helped me plan my trip. Apparently Trip Advisor has some problems with phoney postings. I guess they will have to find a way to filter them out. I do like Trip Advisor for hotel selection, but I also heard there has been manipulation with that too. Right now my heart belongs to the people on Fodor's Forum. By the way, I was disappointed to see that Trip Advisor doesn't have a rating system for restaurants in Italy. I wish they would start one. Best regards, Lisa

I most highly recommend Anno Domini for tours of Ancient Rome and of the Vatican. Anno Domini is a foundation of historians and archeologists in Rome. Our guide was a professor of Rome history at the University of Rome. His name is Sev and he teaches in such a way that keeps your interest. Our tour was for four hours but went on for 5 plus hours. In addition, with this tour you also see the Pantheon which is not included in most Ancient Rome tours.

If you have an interest in booking for the Vatican tour, I highly recommend Anno Domini. These professors are fluent in several languages and I felt blessed to learn about Rome from someone so dedicated to Rome but also so learned. Sev had lived in ROme sine he was two years old. He has an understanding of the past and present that enables him to weave together an entertaining and knowledgable tour.

"does anyone has a contact information for the official Vatican guided tour?"

By "official" what tour are you asking about. there are many tour companies that tour the vatican museums. The Vatican has 2 underground tours and tours of their garden. There are also tours of St. Peter's.

Ottoman - Here's the link if you want to book a tour directly with the Vatican with Vatican employees (not an outside tour company).
