Check trenitalia.com for trains between Roma Termini (TE) and Firenze Santa Maria Novella (SMN). There are hourly departures on the fastest (ES) trains. The trip takes a little more than 1.5 hours.

trains go every couple hours, its really not worth planning out a train ride before a couple days before the ride because if you do, it will be changed. its italy, so you will be punished for planning ahead when it comes to transportation. just go with the flow once you're there. ask people there too, half of florence and rome is a tourist speaking english on any given day (literally).

Annie is so right but if you happen to be an obsessive planner like me the trenitalia website will give you times etc that can be helpful to know ahead (avoids waiting for the train).

We got all of our tickets in advance and then changed them on the very day as we departed. Can do it with a clerk or at an automated kiosk. It is all very easy to do.

Look for the train number and not the destination. Some people wanting to go to Florence see the ES bound for Venice and don't realize that that's your train.
