Rome - Place to stay

We are visiting Rome in October. We would love some recommendations on best places to stay. Any good recommendation under $300? If possible, it would be great to find a place with a rooftop or terrace view.

Thanks!

We also really enjoy a rooftop terrace and our favorites hotels that offer this are the Sofitel Roma and Capo D'Africa. We took a bottle of wine to the roof every night of our stays and it was just wonderful!

For that price range, you might try La Rovere. I've stayed in the hotel and liked it a lot, but be aware that you need to walk 15-20 minutes to get to areas with a density of restaurants, either in Trastevere or the Piazza Navona/Jewish quarter area. Restaurants on the other side the Vatican -- around Cola di Rienzo -- are also a possibility.

Right next to the hotel, the local trattoria, Sor'Eva, is fun, delicious and cheap. Were it me, I'd just eat there every night.

Albergo del Senato is near your price range and has a roof top terrace overlooking the Pantheon.

However, you may have trouble finding a room for this October.

Another one in your price range has a room at the top with it's on terrace. http://www.hotelportoghesiroma.it/

Given the exchange rate, I don't think it is possible to book the Senato for under $300.

I second the rec for the Hotel Portoghesi mentioned above (it's less than 200e, but I'm not sure if it meets your budget under the going exchange rate either).

The rooftop garden area is lovely, although there really isn't a great view of any sites. I like the location a lot, very close to P. Navona and a lot of great restaurants. I'd stay there again.

Check out the Hotel Artorius. Gets great reviews on TripAdvisor. We stayed there in July 08 and loved it. Very reasonable prices, definitely under $300. I wrote a detailed review on TA last year under LynK. http://www.hotelartorius.com

Hi

Try Albergo Al Sole - http://www.solealbiscione.it. Ask for a room on the top floor. I believe this allows access to the terrace. Check when booking.
