Rome or Milan airports

I will be staying in Tuscany and am debating which airport to fly out of to go back to US. Flights leave in the morning so I would have to stay overnight at one of these cities. Which is easier to get to, if there is such a thing, and most convenient? Any suggestions on a hotel also.

Rome is 90 minutes from Florence on the Eurostar. Milan is about 2.5 hours on the Eurostar ( as I remember). A third choice, depending on your location in Tuscany, might be to fly out of Pisa. DELTA used to offer non stops from Pisa-JFK. No idea if they still do. Good luck!

I'm in NY and no airline flies direct, non-stop out of Pisa any longer. Major bummer, 'cause that's how we had planned to travel.

Probably the easiest thing would be flying to/from Florence with a stopover in Paris or Frankfurt or London or Amsterdam or whatever.

Florence is about midway between Milan and Rome (after the new high speed line was opened, Florence to Milan Centrale by train is 1 hour 45 minutes). Maybe FCO is just a bit easier to reach by train and just a bit closer to city center than MXP, but really just a little. Both airports are somewhat in the middle of nowhere.

I would add that southern Tuscany is much closer to Rome than Milan, but as public transportation in rural Tuscany is not very easy, in this case you are likely to need a rental car.

We stayed a nite at Hotel Ristorante Cervo near Malpensa for an early morning flight and it was O.K. But you'll probably need a car or a shuttle to and from the airport.

We've stayed many nites in Rome for early morning flights from FCO. I'd recommend Rome, just because I'm more familiar with it, because I know you can take the train to the airport, and because it's Rome.

Kybourbon, we're flying in October and these flights don't exist. Seasonal, I guess....but thanks so much. You get an A+ for effort for assisting the decision making process!

Staying in Val d'Orcia.
Prefer a non stop to Atlanta so looks like FCO might be a tad easier. Kybourbon, yes I could have done Pisa-JFK-ATL, but didn't want the 4 hour layover.
Thanks all for the advice.

Delta has non-stop Atlanta to Venice (DL flights # 192 and 193 - seasonal), Milan and Rome. Venice is two hours by train to Florence and Venice airport is not way out like MXP and FCO.

Staying in Val d'Orcia you can take the local train from Termini to either Orvieto or Chiusi to pick up your car (careful of rental car hours, especially on weekends).

I find the FCO return through Atlanta to be easier transport and the flight isn't real early (9:40). If I'm flying r/t to FCO, I usually put my Rome stay at the end and go on to another city on arrival day.
