In your travels to Rome which airline did you find the most comfortable travelling Economy & why?
(and I do know there is no comparison to Business Class comfort..but cannot afford that)

It might be worth your while to check which ever airlines you are considering on www.seatguru.com in terms of aircraft seating configuration, seat pitch, etc.

Depends on where you're flying from.
If you want non-stop flight from the US, Continental has one of the better economy products to Italy. They fly very new 767s from Newark to Rome with 2-3-2 seating, personal video screen on every seat, decent 32" pitch, large overhead bins.
But of course, if you're flying from the west coast, then you'll add a long flight on a narrow body 737 or 757 transcon, which greatly diminishes CO's attractiveness.

We travel via Continental with a stop over in Newark. But make sure you get the 2 side seats otherwise you will be jammed in the 5 seat center section. This fall we are traveling out of Toronto on AirTransat. Take them every spring for our Caribbean jaunts and book the Club Seats (equal to business class). 2 RT Club tickets from Toronto to Rome non-stop cost onlt $3000!! One of the benefits of living so close to the Canadian border.

Continental still not under $1000 and USA at $861 with tax DCA-FCO. Mar 8-18th. I can't believe Continental have not dropped their prices at all ...ugh..(frustration) I so wanted to fly with them. I may have to bite the USAirways bullet, getting worried if I wait too much longer even USAir will start rising even more.
USAirways have the Airbus A333 to Rome
anyone have feedback/experience on this plane...do I wait or do I book?
thks

Why take US for $861 when most other airlines (CO excepted) are in the $700s from IAD?
No one flies non-stop DC-Rome anyways, so I don't see why you should fly US for $100 more.
CO is expensive because they're not releasing the cheap seats on the 3/18 return. I have no idea why.

to clarify...when I say DCA I am referring to flights I have checked from DCA/BWI/IAD as these are are all options for me. I check all three when searhing.
I know there is no direct flight to Rome from these locations I am looking at catching a direct flight from the USA to Rome. I do not want to change planes in Europe so in reading reviews(positive & negative) and what people have written with past experiences I narrowed it down to Continental out of EWR (1st choice) and USAir out of Philly (2nd choice).
My departure from DCA/BWI/IAD would be to catch the direct flight from Philly or Newark or to catch the direct flight from EWR.
