Ok, after spending hours on the different websites, I've determined not much is cheap(ie- moderate) in Rome. And it is so hard to tell from a little bio and 1 or 2 pics, much about a place. Not to mention some of those maps.<BR><BR>Any suggetions moderate to nice accomodations, preferably not a modern box, $150 -180. I've read the area around the train station is a little seedy, so I'm trying to avoid that.<BR><BR>I'm thinking a big consideration is how accessable is public trans to the room, in order to get around & see all the sites. I have 3-4 days, any & all suggestions welcome.

Rome is walkable..don't worry about public transport

I strongly recommend you start with the website www.venere.com - - and specifically www.venere.com/roma - - a great resource for window shopping, making inquiries, checking availability on specific dates, making reservations (or equally important - - cancellations if you need to do so).<BR><BR>The used to have a six "zone" map (they were equal sized rectangles) - - but they replaced with a newr slightly more logical map with irregular shapes. No one of these is the defintive best, but a triangle that includes the Pantheon is the sweet spot, in my opinion. The boundaries of the triangle are roughly: Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain and Piazza del Popolo. This is generally known as the Centro Storico (Historic Center).<BR><BR>Two of my favorites are Cesari and del Senato, but you may have trouble making those work in your particular budget. the season might affect that.<BR><BR>Taxis are a fairly good deal in rome, so between that and walking, there are a lot of choices to see the leading sights in Rome.<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex<BR>

We stayed at a hotel near the Vatican which was a main attraction for us. We didn't have any trouble getting around, on bikes or walking. <BR>The subway from the train station brought us very close to the hotel, about 2 long blocks, and since our luggage was on wheels we found that no problem. With heavy luggage you might want to taxi from the metro stop. Bus service is nearby and the staff is friendly and helpful. <BR><BR>www.hotelspringhouse.com

del Senato is lovely !!!!!!!!!!!!!!<BR>but more expensive.<BR><BR>another place is hotel Campo di Fiori,<BR>noisy, and no A/C,<BR>but a GREAt rooftop terrace that <BR>no-one uses<BR>and about $100/ night cheaper.<BR>and very good location.<BR>staff friendly
