Rome Hotel Recommendations?

We are going to Rome in late June/early July and have not yet booked a hotel. I am looking for a moderately priced hotel that is centrally located so that we can come back to the hotel and the middle of the day and get out of the heat.

Can vouch for Casa Howard, The Hotel Parlamento, and the Hotel San Gregoriana. All are near the Spanish Steps/Trevi Fountain area, are moderately priced and have A/C. Casa Howard has no elevator, but is only one small (not very steep) flight up.

Buon Viaggio,
BC

For a central location and a nice view, stay at the Hotel Fontana, in an old restored convent. It is right by the Trevi fountain.

I just returned from a week in Rome. We stayed at the Hotel Delle Nazioni, which is about 50 steps behind the Trevi Fountain. The location was great-right at Trevi, about a 10 minute stroll from Piazza Navonna, and less than 10 to Piazza di Spagna. The price was moderate, about 175USD/night. The area is very busy and touristy though. Rooms were small and hot. Our a/c was not very productive. We did have a large window that opened thankfully. Bathrooms were modern but nothing to get excited about. The staff was very helpful and spoke English. I would recommend the hotel on location alone.

Try the Due Torri, It's had lots of good reviews here.

The Hotel dei Mellini in the Prati district is nice. It's on a side street within walking distance to the Vatican. We did not stay there unfortunately. We stayed at another hotel nearby but walked by Hotel dei Mellini and it looked nice. They have a website.

Hotel Ranieri or Hotel Venezia, latter 3 blocks from Termini. Ranieri was about 15 min. walk from Spanish Steps. Both moderately priced, air conditioned, clean, friendly staff. Mentioned in Cheap Sleeps in Italy.
