Rome Customs
Hi ~ Our international Rome flight arrives at 7am. How long will it take to get through customs? I need to catch a train and the 10am is the fastest. Is this time possible?

My experience is it all depends on the luggage, if you have carry on only then you will be fine.
Of course if the flight gets stupidly late, I'd worry because all flights getting late will stack up.

If your 10am train departs from the airport, then I would be willing to bet you'd make the 10am train unless your flight is stupidly late.
If your train departs from Termini station in Rome it's a different bet.

Thank you, I didn’t realize Trenitalia has a station located at the airport. Very helpful!
Our flight arrives at Fiumicino Airport from the US and we are checking luggage, We decided instead of a connecting flight we prefer a train ride to Santa Margherita, Ligure. (It will be along day) I was looking into the shortest ride with less train changes,
I appreciate everyone’s help.

Sorry, but the fastest train departs from Roma Termini at 11:57, one change in Chiavari. You would arrive at SML at 16:45.
There is an IC departing at 10:07, but you would arrive at SML at 15:44 with one change in Pisa.
I'd simply get a through ticket from FCO to SML at the airport station, why running the risk of wasting money?

In July 2017, my plane arrived in Rome at about 9am. I wasn't paying attention- it took me approximately 45 minutes to not more than an hour, to find where to go through customs and get my passport stamped. I only had carry-on luggage. It helps a lot to pack extremely lightly. By the time I got in line, there were only about 2 people in front of me. From the airport, I took the train to Florence. I followed various advice and bought my ticket from a machine at the last minute. I had planned in advance to buy it at the last minute, in case the plane arrived late...
