I have tweaked our November-December Germany trip a bit. We were just in Salzburg and Berchtesgaden this summer so won't do them this trip.FYI-Our daughter is more interested in Christmas Markets, palaces etc and fewer art/ history museums (must have burnt her out when she was younger.

Day 3 Berlin, adult daughter arrives in the afternoon
Day 4- walking tour and other Berlin sights
Day 5-Berlin underground tour and other sights
Day 6- Berlin sights
Day 7-to Dresden, we may stop in Wittenburg enroute
Day 8 Dresden, Royal Palace and Green Vault,Christmas Market starts
DAy 9 to Nurnberg, maybe stop in Bamburg
Day 10 Nurnberg, Chrismas market starts
Day 11 to Munich, stop in Dachau
Day 12 Munich, Deutsches Museum
Day 13 to Linderhof , Wieskirche Church and maybe Obermmergau
Day 14 Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein
Day 15 to Rothenburg and possibly stop in Dinkelsbuhl
Day 16 Rothenburg
Day 17 to Bacharach or St. Goar, maybe stop in Wurzburg enroute
Day 18 Bachcharach or St. Goar, visit Marksburg and Rheinfels (we will need to overnite at the airport as we have an early flight and our daughter's flight is later and we will need a plac to drop a car)
I would appreciate feedback regarding:
Should we keep 2 days in Dresden and 2 in Nurnbrg or maybe do only 1 in Nurnberg. I would have loved to have more time in Bacharach but we could not visit Nurnberg any earlier as the Xmas Market does not start till the 30th.
Any recommendations for a town to stay in when touring Linderhof or Neuschwanstein(day 13 &14)? maybe Fussen or Obermergau???
Is it doable to do Rheinfels and Marksburg in one day? Also, where is a town to stay...Bacharach, St. Goar or elsewhere????
Are Bamburg, Dinkelsbuhl and Wurzburg going to be easy enough towns to drive into for a day trip?

Nurnberg is one of my least favorite Christmas markets as well as not a favorite city. I much prefer the charm of Wurzburg and Bamberg as well as Regensburg. And the market in Regensburg is quite nice as well.

ROTB is not a place I would spend more than a few hours in. While pretty, IMO it is very touristy but quite one dimensional. I would not choose to spend a night there.

Have you been to Munich before? Seems like your time will be quite short since you plan to visit Dachau one day.

No, we have only flown out of Munich before. What are some sights that you enjoy in Munich. As for Nurnberg I have heard many say it is not their favorite city. Is Bamberg an easy city to get into?

A little too much IMO. I might delete the Rhine portion of your trip as the outlier and spend that extra time in Munich.

Munich has a pretty good Christmas market, and Dallmyer is fun at Christmas. The Viktualenmarkt. Plenty of great churches, especially Asamkirche and the cathedral. Great museums, including the Deutsches Museum you mention. The crown jewels at the Residenz - an excellent collection. The Nymphenburg Palace, with the royal coach and sleigh collection and the magical Amalienburg pavillion. Lots to do.

It's a very easy, comfortable, friendly city. I think some people call it the world's largest village.

If you got to Dresden early enough, you would only need one night there.

I would stay in Bamberg rather than Nuremburg.

I enjoyed RODT on both of my visits there. However, in both cases we used the town as a base for day trips (including Wurzburg), so we only experienced the town in the morning and at night. It is very beautiful but I can see where hundreds of busloads of people could wreck the experience in the afternoon.

Looking at your itinerary, I might try Berlin Dresden Bamberg Rothenburg Fussen Munich.

We use the trains and public transport so everywhere is easy to get into for us. Sorry, cannot help you with car access or parking.

We rarely have a list of "sights" in any city we visit in Germany, with Berlin being the one exception as the quality and diversity of museums is outstanding. Even then, we play it by ear based on weather and what local happenings we discover that will be taking place during our stay. Many of our best days have been completely unplanned.

This year I did book a special tour for my husband as a Christmas present. He is a professional photographer and there is a specialty photographer in Berlin that does one on one photo tours. I am excited to tell him about this as I know it will be something unique to his interests. I will use the time to visit one of the museums I have not made it to in my last 5 visits.

We enjoy the various Christmas markets in Munich, the Tollwood winter festival and the Viktualienmarkt and surrounding restaurants.

Munich is a great city just for exploring the neighborhoods, stopping in local spots for a beer or glass of wine or coffee.

Munich is normally a base location for us and we have made numerous day trips over the course of multiple stays. We enjoyed Chiemsee am Prien, Tegernsee, Garmisch on day trips to name a few. Since we prefer to choose a few base locations and make daytrips rather than moving every couple of days, Munich is a good location for this.

We visited Fussen and Linderhof as day trips from Munich as well. We like being located in a city that has lots of dining and evening options and visiting smaller towns by day.

We enjoyed spending the evening before our return flight from Munich 2 years ago in the small town of Freising, lovely for the season and 15 minutes from the airport.

I've been to Rothenburg a couple of times. It's a different place in the evening and in the morning when the big tour busses aren't there. It's just lovely for strolling and looking at architecture.

I also liked Bamberg a lot. The only Christmas market I've ever visited was the one in Nürnberg, and I liked it.

Dallmyer is Munich's excellent specialty food shop. Maybe I am spelling it wrong though.

Then she would also enjoy Rogacki and would love the 6th floor at KaDeWe. We spend hours there.

Looking at only the first few days of your itinerary, I suggest the walking tour should be first priority. Take it as soon as possible, even the first afternoon if you are up to it after travelling. It will set you up for everything else you want to do.

I would do the walking tour first but my daughter will not be there yet so we will wait till she arrives.The planning of this trip is different than if it was just the two of us.
