Restaurants in the Ille St-Louis, Paris

We loved Au Gourmet de L'Isle when we went in 2000. I highly recommend it for a wonderful, quiet meal. The service we had was outstanding (the waiter was wonderful, and joked with me quite a bit when I asked him to speak French to us so I could practice, it was a truly memorable "positive" experience all the way around). For a slightly scaled down affair and a bit lower cost, try La Castafiore (Italian cuisine, but very good) also on Rue St. Louis.

Why?

Because sometimes there are no personal experiences to be had and the thread sinks to the 4th page before you know it, so I feel it is better to give 3rd-hand info than no info at all. At least s is not trying to pass the info off as her own experience. And she's citing her reference. Plus, not everyone has access to all the great info out there nor the time to do the research. They ask here. We provide.

I post the same type of info myself sometimes.

why, do you have any personal info here to share?

Just returned from ten days in France. Dinner at Le Monde des Chimeres was one of our three best dinners from among many great dinners on this trip. It was relatively inexpensive (about $30 per person including three courses and wine) and quite charming. Both the food and service were excellent. Reservations are a must.

Hi, all,

Two quick questions:

1) Does anyone have an e-mail address, web site and/or fax number for Le Monde des Chimeres?

2) Was the $30 price estimate for the "prix fixe" menu plus one glass of wine?

Many thanks.

John H

I am selfishly posting my own request for phone #'s for any of the above mentioned restaurants. Also how far in advance would reservations be necessary; I will be in Paris in Oct. how far in advance should I reserve?
If I could only choose 1 or 2 restaurants mentioned above due to time concerns; which would be the best choices?
I welcome any suggestions
Viva La France

Kate...

Original poster was looking for personal references, not regurgitations from a tour book. I have not been to Paris, but am curious to go, therefore I read but not offer up others' ideas. Most people come here for personal recommendations, not what they can easily pick up and read on their own out of guidebooks that may/may not pay to have their restaurants reviewed. I could've picked up any guidebook and spit it back too. And if you're so interested in keeping the thread alive, just top it, don't bother posting copyrighted material. There were already two useful posts before yours, it's not like this went unanswered.

Hi, I'm the original poster. Thank you for all your responses.

Kate - thank you for looking up your guidebook. I agree that some info is better than none (or very little), and the info you gave is very helpful.

John - you probably have the phone number by now, but other good web references are www.zagat.com (includes ratings for food) and www.pagesjaunes.fr for locations and even pictures of places in France.

I'm off to Paris is afternoon. Thanks again everyone.

John - phone number for Le Monde des Chimeres is 01 43 54 45 27.

Gourmet de I'Isle
01 43 26 79 27

Sherry - refer to the websites for phone numbers. Also www.eatinparis.com. I read somewhere that reservations should be made at least a day in advance, except for the Taillavents and the like (1 month in advance).

Bon appetit
why why why -
Why do you pick on kate? Since you still have not given any helpful advice.
It is not unusual for people here to post info from guide books that they find on the mark with recommendations.
xxx asked for any OTHER recommendations and kate did recommend another restaurant also.
Looks like you have a problem with kate rather than this thread.
Why?

I've eaten at La Castafiore and heartily recommend it, especially if you're in an "anything but French" kind of mood. Excellent Italian food at a reasonable price. Ed, the American co-owner, is a very nice fellow and probably could give you good tourist advice/recommendations if you need it.
