The old town of Nice has any number of restaurants. One we especially like is L'Ecurie, located at 4, rue du Marché. The restaurant offers Niçoise cuisine as well as Italian. On the Cours Saléya you will find Spaghettisimo, just what it sound like--all sorts of pasta, at reasonable prices. For a splurge, head to La Voglia, also on the Cours Saléya, for excellent Italian food in large portions.
Right on the edge of Vieux Nice, near the post office, is Le Pain Quotidien, a Belgian bakery chain with wonderful breads and pastries. We always head there for breakfast (delectable soft-cooked eggs), but there are good sandwiches and soups for lunch and later in the day.
Old Nice is not exactly a village; it's a warren of narrow old streets with buildings alongside, some 3 and 4 stories. There are all sorts of itneresting shops as well as cafés and restaurants.

Are you in Nice? If so, here are two more restaurants that we loved:
La Pizza, on the rue Masséna, about 2 blocks from the Place Masséna. Much more than pizza, but it's the best we've ever had.
Almost across the street is a small Italian place, O'Palermo. The restaurant offers a good number of Italian dishes at reasonable prices and in a nice atmosphere.
If you like seafood, head to the Café de Turin, near the modern-art museum. It's a local favorite; so you might need to wait for a table if you don't reserve. Sitting upstairs is the most comfortable. Be sure to get a side order of the wonderful dark bread.

We adored a meal at La Zucca Magica on the Old Harbor. Its a vegetarian set meal tasting menu, and I booked the table there as an "offering" to my long suffering vegetarian husband who watched me snarf foie gras and charcuterie for weeks before we got to Nice!
Let me tell you, veggie or not, it was FANTASTIC. Course after course appeared, and we never ever missed having meat or fish. Don't miss it.
