restaurants in dublin

hi, I'm taking the wife to Dublin for a few days, and whilst we are there it is her birthday. Can anyone recommend a nice fancy restaurant?
cheers

Depending on how fancy you want and your tastes
L'ecrivan would be very highly rated as would Patrick Guilbaud's in the merrion hotel.
Shanahans is very nice with a more limited menu.
Chapter One is a personal favourite also.
Some other posters may be able to yea/nay some of these recommendations.

Patrick Guilbaud's at the Merrion Hotel
Thorntons at The Fitzwilliam Hotel
Peploe's on Stephens Green
Chapter One on Parnell Square
The Unicorn on Merrion Row
Les Freres Jacques on Dame Street
One Pico off Molesworth Street
Shanahan's on Stephens Green

The only one of these I haven't been to is Thorntons (but I'm going this Thursday!!). The remainder are all excellent. My personal favourites would be Chapter One and One Pico. Shanahans is also excellent - great steaks and the restaurant itself is beautiful.

I have been to all of these and would recommend them too for a special occasion. Shanahans is very much a steak restaurant and Chapter One is probably the best value. See www.irelands-blue.book.ie for details of some of the best Ireland has to offer in food and hotels.

Not a really fancy restaurant, but good and kind of nouvelle cuisine, was Kitty's Caboodle, near St. Stephen's Green. Also enjoyable was Trastevere, in Temple Bar, also casual, but good Italian.

Kittys Caboodle has now changed to Kittys Bistro - trying to be more upmarket by the looks of it. I haven't been since it changed over so can't tell you what it's like!

Thanks for all of your help here. We phoned chapter one, there is a 6 week waiting list for saturday nights!
Went to Temple Bar, to a restaurant called Shacks. Very good cuisine, at reasonable prices.
Once again, thanks for all of your comments
