Residenza San Pantaleo Studio
Does anyone have first hand experience in the studio? I have booked a 5 night stay for mid May and want some feedback. The picture they provided me looks like they have a sofa bed in place of a bed. My question is if it's comfort--like no bar across the back that disrupts your sleep. For the price they quoted me, it hard to pass on it (100euro). Is this place comparable to the hotel?

I rented a studio apartment from the Residenza San Pantaleo when I was in Rome a couple of years ago, sight unseen. The address they initially provided to me was not the one I ended up at, however, so it's my impression that they have more than one apartment that they rent.

My apartment had an antique daybed-type piece and a more modern futon coach. Neither were particularly comfortable, but the roof garden more than made up for it. For the location and price, I was very happy.

If you have a street address, post it here and I can check my trip notes and tell you if it's the same place or not.

No, your address does not match up with either of mine! The place they originally offered me was on Via del Governo Vecchio (a few blocks north, but parallel to Via dei Cappellari.) Where I ended up was on Via Delle Coppelli (about midway between the Pantheon and the north end of Piazza Navona.)

I don't know how long you're staying, but if it's for a week or less, I'd say take a chance! That is an excellent rate for the location.

The staff at the Residenza were wonderful to me. I agreed to use their driver to pick me up at the airport because my original flight was supposed to arrive at about 10 PM and I didn't want to deal with public transit and finding the hotel and then the apartment that late. I was booked on Swissair during the few days when they were completely shut down (early Oct, 2001), and had to book a different ticket two days before I was scheduled to leave. Long story short - I arrived a day late, and they did not make me pay for the unused night. Their driver was waiting for me at the airport, and the guy with the keys was waiting for us at the apartment. They let me go to the ATM and drop by the hotel to pay the bill at my convenience. I would stay at the hotel or in one of their apartments again without hesitation.

Enjoy Rome, whatever you decide!

Lesli, my wife and I are staying at the Residenza San Pantaleo in May. I didn't know they would provide a driver for airport pickup. Do you know what they charge for this. Our plane arrives at FCO at 9:00pm. We are booked at the following address: Piazza San Pantaleo, 3 Roma.

Thanks for any info.

MarkY -

The Residenza San Pantaleo actually offered the airport pickup service to me when I e-mailed them asking which bus to take from the train station, suggesting that since my arrival time was so late, I might prefer not to hang around Termini waiting for a bus.

I'm not sure of the exact cost, and we were still dealing in Lira at the time.... It was a bit of a splurge for me I remember, especially considering how little I was paying for lodging - perhaps about the equivilant of $50 USD? After the long flight, and all the stress of having to rebook at the last minute, I considered it well worth the cost.

If you are interested, definitely e-mail or call them to inquire. It sounds as if you are actually staying at the hotel itself, so I'm fairly sure they can arrange for pickup.

There may be other car services that are less expensive than their rates; I ordinarily take public transport, so I did not look into that possibility. A quick Google search for "rome airport transfer" turned up a few services that seem about the same price for two:
http://www.rome-airport-shuttle.com/
http://www.italmarket.com/rm/airport_shuttle/

Hello Raineydae.... I spent one week in Rome almost exactly a year ago. I stayed the first six nights at the Residenza San Pantaleo and a final night in one of their studio apartments a few blocks away because of a problem with the reservation (mine and airline's fault). I really enjoyed my stay at the RSP main property. It suited my needs perfectly and comfortably. But the studio apartment made me feel very uncomfortable. I described my experience in a lengthy post on here about 9-10 months ago. Do a search on the RSP and you might come up with it. I will try to do the same and top it for you if I find it. I don't have a street address as it was just a one-night stay and the staff at RSP just walked me over to the apartment. So the exact place you are talking about may be different from the one I am talking about.

I'll try to find my other post.

Rather than topping, I find it's easier to provide the URL for the other thread (by right clicking in it and then clicking on Properties - then blocking and copying the URL up to the end of the tid number). Here it is:

http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...mp;tid=1357513

Lesli, I emailed San Pantaleo and inquired about them picking my wife and I up at FCO (we arrive from London at 9:05pm). I also asked them what the charge would be.

They emailed me back saying they would be in the waiting area with a sign with our names on it. There was no mention of a charge. If it's $50 or less, I'll consider it worth it but I'm curious why they didn't mention it when I specifically asked what the charge would be.

Thanks for your info.

Idnas71 what do you mean by

"But the studio apartment made me feel very uncomfortable."

Was the studio not clean or the neighborhood not to your liking? Can you get specific? I'm having second thoughts now.

Read the other thread with the link posted above for details. It sounds to me as if Idnas17 just didn't like being on her own there. I believe she says she had not traveled before by herself.

I was also traveling alone and had no such feelings, but then, I've traveled alone (to Italy and other countries) before. And again, it would appear that we are each referring to different apartments, in different buildings.

MarkY

Although I wrote a lengthy post on the RSP after staying there (not in the studio apt.), this is the only info I found during the search. Both drivers (arriving and departing) were prompt and polite (not, however bi-lingual - nor are we).

Hope this help:

Author: Kat
Date: 03/06/2002, 03:03 pm
Message: Margo - Thanks for the detailed info. I booked 2 double rooms at Residenza San Pantaleo in July for 99euros each, including breakfast and tax. Carlo responded promptly via email, and has contacts with a transfer company that will pick us up from the airport at a charge of 45euros, if we are interested. After 12 hours of travelling with 2 kids, I think I'll take him up on it.

Raineydae,

Lesli is right... I didn't like being there alone. I am a pretty independent person, but as my first solo trip, there were a few trying experiences for me that I guess just culminated on that last day. But my stay at the "staffed" RSP was great. I don't regret my choice to stay there at all and looking back now, nor do I regret any part of my trip, except for maybe a few logistics that I could have planned better. And most of all, sounds like we are not talking about the exact same studio, so good luck to you in your traveling.

Here's the long awaited review:
The studio at Via Cappellari is just steps away from Campo de' Fiori. Clean but could be cleaner. Best and worst part is the location. Best because it's central and walking distance to everywhere. Worst because we were on the first floor (european) and the one and only window is located where the sanitation workers would gather at all hours of the day/night. We could hear every word being said, it's no place for the light sleeper. This studio has a good location and price but, I would not return to it.
