Residenza Farnese or Hotel dei Borgognoni

I'll be Rome for 4 nights in late May. Have been there before and liked my old spot on the Piazza Farnese - I walked to everything. I've seen messages on Residenza Farnese, but only 1 from someone who had actually stayed there. Has anyone else stayed there and do you have comments on the rooms? Would you recommend it? I also have checked out Hotel dei Borgognoni. More expensive than Residenza Farnese, but room has its own balcony. Not sure if area will be as good. Has anyone stayed at this hotel and any comments/recommendations? All comments appreciated. Thanks.

My wife and I stayed at the Residenza Farnese for 4 nights in late April-early May, 2002, and we really enjoyed staying there. We had a corner room, with large windows on two sides, which gave us nice cross breezes. The rooms are quiet, and appear to be recently updated. The rooms are small (probably average by Rome standards), but are comfortable and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was relatively new and very clean -- expect a small shower stall.

The breakfast was not one of our favorites in our two week stay in Italy, but is adequate. We ate breakfast here only once, and skipped the rest of the time.

Front desk staff were all friendly and cordial. They have their own car to take you to/from FCO, at 45 euro (very reasonable). Check-in was fast and easy, after a long day's journey from Positano. This was a very user-friendly hotel in a great location -- I agree with you, the area around the Palazzo Farnese (which is across the street from the hotel)is close to many major sites in the Centro Storico, and is just across the river from Trastevere.

The hotel is very quiet at all hours, which is a major plus in this part of Rome. We were able to open the windows at night, enjoy the night breeze and not worry about oppressive traffic noise. We would definitely return to this hotel on our next visit to Italy.

P.S. An interesting side note: this hotel has a full-size pool table in the common area near the bar. While we didn't use it, it was a nice feature and a little added touch.

Mary. I just posted also about the Farnese. We were just there last weekend. If you want to know anything specific besides Phil's post, drop me a line.
I do not know the Hotel dei Borgognoni.

For those who've stayed there, can you provide me with a web site or an email address? I realize that there are various places (hotels) with the name Farnese and I am NOT talking about Hotel Farnese which is further out of the center. I am talking about Residenza Farnese near Campo dei Fiori. I haven't been able to find a direct web site for them.

Thanks!

Milehigh. I also stayed there in 2002 and I believe that I have one of their brochures.
I will look for it.
Residenza Farnese
Via del Mascherone, 59
(Piazza Farnese)
Tel. 06.68.89.13.88
Ther is no website listed on the brochure.
I cannot remember how I made the reservations.

As I recall, you can easily book through Venere.com or the website might be listed in Frommers or one of the big travel books at a bookstore. I used to have it but can't seem to find it.

I believe the website is http://www.residenzafarneserome.com/hotel.html

I stayed there a couple of years ago and the room I had was quite large and nice but when I go to Rome this year I will be staying a bit closer to things by the Pantheon. I had alot of noise at night while I was there but it may have just been a rowdy group staying close by.
