We are going to Paris and have reservations at the Le Meridien Etoile and the Hotel Les Jardins d'Eiffel on 8, Rue Amelie. Can anyone out there give us some feedback on these hotels? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks, Linda and Mike

Coincidentally my husband and I stayed at Le Meridien Etoile in 1992. This is a very large hotel and since it was the first time we were visiting Paris, I thought that it would be like an American hotel.<BR><BR>It was quite the opposite. We were given a very small and very charmless room with furniture circa 1980's. It's also located at Porte Maillot which is great if you've got a convention to attend as the hotel is across the street from the convention center. Otherwise, it's a bit out of the way-there are restaurants nearby but nothing compared to the Latin Quarter or St. Germain.<BR><BR>So if I were you I would book at the Hotel les Jardins d'Eiffel instead. I believe it's a smaller hotel and I've viewed pictures of it before. It's got more charm than the Le Meridien, believe me.

We stayed at Les Jardins d'Eiffel last year. Our room had a tiny balcony with a view of the Eiffel Tower - lovely at the end of the day! The room was comfortable (it was in an extension at the back of the hotel) and had air conditioning. The area is very good - lopts of interesting shops, restaurants, etc, and very safe - I'd go back there.

We stayed two weeks at the Hotel Jardins d'Eiffel last August...ask for a room in the newer section of the hotel in the back as recommended above. Our triple room had a great balony/patio with a table and two chairs with the great Eiffel Tower view. The people at the front desk were wonderful. The included breakfast was good....fresh fruit, yogurt, croissants, rolls, jellies, etc. The area was very quiet at night, there's a small laundromat across the street, lots and lots of places to eat-in or take out. Have a great trip!!!

<BR><BR>Can't comment on the hotel, but Rue Amelie is a great location. I had a flat there in the early 80's and loved the loacation. It is one block from Rue Cler with neat markets and shops and close to a couple of Metro's. The area is a little more calm than some others on the Left Bank.<BR><BR>The other direction from Rue Cler has many really good Brasseries and Tabac's for breakfasts, lunches and dinners. It is an easy walk to The Tower and Seine. ( There used to be a British Pub just around the corner )<BR><BR>Hope you enjoy. <BR><BR>Rich
