Renting a Convertible Car in Florence?

Going to Florence for a few days in April and want to rent a car for a day or two to explore the countryside. Looking to rent a convertible Fiat, Peugeot, BMW or Mercedes Benz, etc . (A Ferrari would be wasted on us, we are not really performance automobile aficionados). Stick shift if fine, in fact preferred.

I have looked at Hertz, Avis, Budget, Auto Europe, Europe by Car, and National, none of which seem to offer convertibles via their website. Will calling the 800 numbers be useful? i.e., has anyone rented a convertible from one of the big rental companies, or can someone recommend a local rental agency that can provide one?

I have found a company in Florence called Maggiore (seems to be affiliated with Alamo), and a company in the US called Maiellano Tours Inc both of which purport to rent Peugeot convertibles. Anyone have any experience with either?

Many thanks for your help.

I got a quote for a Saab convertible from Auto Europe last year. It was VERY VERY expensive. (I think by the time the mandatory insurance was added, we were looking at close to $1,000 for a week!)

Did you click on luxury vehicles on AutoEurope? Ther are three full"pages" of covrtibles, from BMW to Bently, at prices ranging from $1400 to THIRTEEN THOUSAND for 3 days.

Or, for some more affordable hoices, take a look at http://www.zephyrus.it/eng - - generally vintage cars - - get a Morgan! You do have to go to Chiusi to get their cars, I think...

Best wishes,

Rex
