Relais St. Jacques--Recent Stay or Information?

Hi-- I am a new poster and I hope all of you who seem to know the ropes in Paris can help.

I'm not having much luck finding out about this hotel, the Relais St Jacques. I do have some info from an old hotel guide, but Trip Advisor has some strange postings--there seems to have been a confusion between this hotel and another Left Bank establishment with a similar name, so I have no idea of how to judge the negative or positive reviews.

The web pictures look beautiful and I have obtained a good superior room plus breakfast rate for the upcoming Martin Luther King weekend. Does anyone have first-hand experience?

Catherina--I tried researching Relais St. Jacques awhile ago and ended up with the same frustration. A search on this board found mentions of the name but little hard-core info.

I saw the same thing with Trip Advisor. I think there's a hotel named Hotel St. Jacques that is the cause of the confusion.

So I'm sorry I can't help you. I do share your pain!

What kind of information are you looking for? I enter Relais St. Jacques on Google and get dozens of hits including booking information and a number of sites that describe it and even comment on it.
I'm assuming you're talking about the one in the 6th at 3 Rue De L'abbe De Leppe? It certainly isn't cheap and seems highly rated.

It is in the 5th, not 6th, but is on rue de l'abbe de l'epee. It is one of the very few 4* hotels in the 5th arrondisement. I can see how the reviews might be mixed up as there is a 2* hotel named Saint Jacques, also in the 5th. I don't think I've read a lot on here from folks who have stayed there, but perhaps a couple posts.

I can't comment on the hotel in its present state, as when I stayed there it was the old Hotel de Nevers (and, yes, there is another hotel by that name), owned by an elderly couple and their cats. After they retired, it was sold and became the boutique hotel it is today.
Although the rooms and public areas were redone and it's a much nicer hotel now, be advised that the rooms will still be on the small side. The location is fine. There is a nice cafe a couple of doors down and while it's an easy walk to Latin Quarter sights, it's fairly quiet there at night. So if you want to be in the 5th, it's a nice choice.

BTilke: Thank you for the concrete information!

Christina: Your memory is correct--the hotel comes up in the searches, but as far as discussions about first-hand experiences with the hotel, no. It's strange, isn't it? I couldn't decide at the time if it's because it's a 4* or not. You know what I mean: I think it's safe to say that most who post here gravitate more towards the 3* and below places.

Patrick: Oh, there are pages and pages of hits for "Relais St. Jacques" but that hasn't led to the bonanza we searchers get from some other hotels. The actual reviews are far and few between. Many times the Google mention or the actual review is for Hotel St. Jacques, not Relais St. Jacques.

Even the quality of the few reviews has been strange. I think the same review was posted three times on Trip Advisor. Verbatim. I'm sure that was some sort of technical glitch, but then there are two additional reviews there that are oddly similarly phrased.

To compound the problem, there's a letter from the hotel's manager responding to negative postings about the hotel.

In addition to this Trip Advisor problem, some of the other hotel booking sites with reviews/comments are actually duplications of each other--different logos, same booking engine with exactly the same reviews.

Again, I think that's why Catherina was asking for anyone who has stayed there recently. Even TBilke, who so graciously gave her feedback, doesn't have anything recent.

Catherina: I gave up. I knew the street and the area, but for the same amount of money, I booked a less pretty hotel where someone here or elsewhere had just stayed. Just let us know if you need feedback about any other hotels. I'm sure there will be a last-minute deals for this weekend.

Relais St Jacques - There are comments on www.france.com, however the most recent one is 2003.

There are two comments on Venere.com
"Jury Fiona review (date of review Nov 8 2004) The room was quite small for the price and whilst the room next door was vacant the noise levels were very low. The bathroom noise from the room next door was unpleasant.
Edghill Kathryn review (date of review Nov 14 2003) A lovely hotel. Joseph and his staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay here again."
