Relais Saint Sulpice or Hotel Brighton
I know, I know another Paris hotel question, but where are you going to get the straight scoop except from Fodorites! We have a choice of Relais Saint Germain or Hotel Brighton. We usually stay at the Relais Saint Germain but the price has escalated past our budget. Does anyone have any experience with the Deluxe Tuilerie rooms at the Hotel Brighton or the Superior or Deluxe rooms at the Relais Saint Sulpice? I am traveling with an insomniac so additional space in the room is appreciated. TIA.

We have stayed at the Relais St.Germain a number of time and we stayed at the Brighton a number of years ago, with three teen age daughters, well before its fairly recent re-do. We had 3 rooms. Ours was a deluxe room facing the Tuileries,. I don't remember the room being particularly large relative to other right bank hotels we have stayed in, but compared to many of the Hotels in St.Germain (though not the Relais S.G) I guess one would consider the the room a good size. The view was great, though I seem to remember the terrace being one that you could barely step out onto.
I expect that there were no really large rooms at the Brighten as we would have put the three girls in one room had there been a room big enough to hold them!
I also expect that the re-do was in decorating and not structural to any large extent. It is a fairly narrow building and the lobby looks pretty much the same as it always did.
The location is great, right down the street from the Meurice and near Angelina's,but the Rue de Rivoli is not a quiet street in terms of daytime traffic...both vehicle and pedestrian. On
the plus side, I don't remember hearing garbage trucks at night.
I'm sure you know that the area is very different in feeling than the area around the Relais St. Germain, but change is nice....and the view of the park, the Louvre and the Musee D'Orsay across the park is great.
If your going to be there in the Spring there is usually a ferris wheel and carousel across the street in the Park. It's almost like a small country fair in the big city! Its really nice to come "home" after a busy day in Paris and be able to wander into the park in the evening to unwind!

I don't remember the Ferris wheel being in the park in March....it's still a little nippy in Paris then! It's always there when we're there in June and I would guess it's a late spring thing. In October there was one in the Place de La Concorde.
