All it's going to do is to encourage certain people who either make themselves annoying or are "sensitive-delicate" souls to email Fodors complaining that so-and-so said something "mean" - the basic 5 year old "I'm gonna tell" syndrome. What some people call politeness is just as opportuniity to be controlling.

I have no problem with registration. I think people can still be "colorful" without being mean and petty. Those who seek and provide good travel info will hang around and the others will hopefully go off and annoy somebody else.

The email address has to be a real one (though of course it's easy to set up extra email accounts) because you receive an email prompt to confirm your registration.

<<Trolls will just make up different screen names with invalid e-mail addresses attached to them.>>

Abusive posting will surely result in Fodors invalidating that person's registration.

I have been in favor of voluntary registration. I fear that this will inhibit some newcomers from asking a question. How "we" treat newcomers will help them get over such hesitation.

It still has not been disclosed whether there will be a way to send an e-mail message off the board if the e-mail address of the registrant is protected by Fodors.

And likewise, whether all the old e-mail addresses are going to be wiped off.

For the time being, I may sing off with my e-mail address in the message itself.

Best wishes,

Rex Bickers
Westerville, Ohio
[email protected]
what they could do, is prevent anyone from registering with a hotmail or yahoo account.

if it's a 'real' email address, it may cut down...

Well, I just registered! I usually post under my real name anyway, but the one thing I will miss is the sometimes very clever fake names that were a comment on the subject. Too bad about that. I will NOT miss the vicious attacks and the slamming for no reason. I hope some of the funny threads will still show up.

I just registered: I wonder who has grabbed the infamous xxx handle.
To bad they didn't give us the option of including our e-mail address in our posts, I probably also add it too my messages. Regards, Walter

I just registered. Glad to do it. As for not having e-mail addresses show up, if a person wants to exchange e-mails they can just put it in the body of the post or respond to a request for it by adding it to a later post.

I've always thought it presumptious and, at times, intrusive to send a private e-mail to a person just because they've HAD to note it in the author portion. One should wait to be invited to respond privately.

Happily, all 300 gifts are not the same. First prize is dinner for eight at Danny's, followed by a personal tutorial on-line about exemplars in posting etiquette. It promises to be a thrilling evening, with Danny himself donned in internet togs for the 00's.
