recommendations for tours in Paris
I will be staying Aug 2-8.
I am on my own. Is it worth making reservations for tours? If so which website is recommended?
What are the most popular tours?
How will the weather affect the walking tours which I like too?
Thank you very much

I've not taken any tours in Paris, and see no need for a tour. There are some speciality tours that might be interesting, such as the food tours by Paris by Mouth, but I'd wait until you are there and decide whether you want to take any kind of tour or not.
"How will the weather affect the walking tours which I like too?" The rain will mean that you are walking in the rain. I guess it depends on your willingness to walk in the rain. And you don't need a tour to walk in Paris.

Hop off hop on buses circulate around most major sights and you can get on and off at will for the whole day with a ticket - provides commentary en route - a nice way to get an intro and feel for Paris for first timers.
These are open-top double-decker buses.
One such bus tour - there are others and I do not recommend one over the other as I have not taken them.

no need to reserve - buy tickets when getting on the bus I think but no need to book.

I've taken a lot of Paris Walks tours. You do not reserve (unless it's a specialty tour); just show up. They are inexpensive and the guides are certified and knowledgeable. The walks go on rain or shine.

Notre Dame gives a free walk, given by volunteers, every Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. This is an exceptional 1.5 to 2 hour tour - I've done it twice.
There is Paris Greeter service where you are matched with a local in the area you designate.
Reputable companies include Context which is expensive but very good.

How can anyone answer this without doing an analysis with data the tour companies will not provide to the general public?

Only you can answer this question - we don't know which tours you like. Identify which walking tours you like and then check their web sites but usually tours proceed regardless of the weather.

I always dismissed tours, especially of museums, thinking my own reading and research was sufficient. However, on my last trip I took the Musee d'Orsay's own tour, given by a museum employee, and found it very worthwhile. She gave in-depth information that really pulled it together for me. It was not at all a dumbed down talk to ignorant tourists.
