We are traveling to Paris, I have been before, arounds 17 years ago. The people I'm traveling with have never been. I am wondering what arrondissement we should stay in to get easily to all the land marks. On my must see this: Eiffel Tower, Rodin Museum, Louvre, Musee D'Orsay, Notre Dame, Sacre Couer. I recall the metro is easy to use and makes traveling around the city easy. But I want to find a place to stay that is close and safe and not too expensive (no more than $150 a night). Where should we stay?

In 2012 we stayed at Hotel Bonaparte in the 6th arrondisement. Excellent location. We visited all the places you mention, and more. We walked almost everywhere, and took the bus or metro a few times. I believe the rate was $170 per night.

How many people will be travelling with you?
If you need a quad room, or connecting rooms, you will probably have to double the amount of euros.

I'd suggest the 6th arrondissement, because everyone who dreams of Paris will be happy there.
Good connections on Metro and you can walk to most everything from there.

If those are your only considerations, practically anywhere inside
Paris close to a metro/RER station would do.

The difference in where you stay comes in depending on what you are doing BEFORE you leave to visit these place, that is breakfast, and what you do AFTER you get back to the hotel, that is evening walk around and dinner if desired within the walking distance.

When are you going? The hotel prices vary depending on time. During the off season, your budget allows for more hotel choice.

Standard advice for Paris:
It is safe. The city centre is compact and easy to navigate. Attractions are all over the place so no one hotel is convenient to everything. Learn to use public transit: https://www.ratp.fr/en

Choose a hotel near a main Metro subway station (one that has two lines offers easier connections.) Your budget is in the low-medium range, nothing fancy, depending on time of year. The euro will go further if the hotel is on the edge of the centre but transport will be less convenient. A simple Google search will turn up all sorts of information sites.

I don't know why people quote dollars when they are visiting Paris, but assuming that is USD, the odds of you finding a hotel room in the center of Paris in some expensive areas like St Germain for not more than US$150 is not great. There are few low-level hotels with very small rooms where that is possible in the general center, but you won't have a lot of choice. That's only 130 euro. And of course, it also depends on time of year to some degree, for example, August is cheaper.

The 1* Hotel St Andre des Arts mentioned above is a good idea for that budget. The Bonaparte's smallest room is about 140 euro in cheap periods.

Some excellent advice here and I very much appreciate everyone's response. I promise to begin thinking in Euros and correcting my French spelling. I'm looking forward to the visit. I'm counting on the good-hearted nature of the French and the beauty of the city to lift our spirits.

We will be three people. I (72 ans) and my daughter and son-in-law will be taking the trip near the middle or end of March and stay for three or four days.

Ok. Not too touristy in march.
Either stay where US tourists flock.. Like hotel Clement in the 6th.
Or be more into the real Paris where staff don't greet me in English but rather in French.
