Ravello Day Trips

Hi all --

First off, thanks to eveyone for all the great info in this forum. We're staying at the Palazzo Sasso for 4 days in June. What type of day trips would you recommend from there? What are the must sees and do in the area? Thanks in advance for all your assistance.

Dpara - Must sees? Here are a few for starters:

Amalfi, Positano, Capri, Paestum, Pompei, Ercolano, Vesuvius, Sorrento, Naples, Ischia, Montepertuso/Nocelle, Path of the Gods, Solfatara, Caserta, Cassino ...

Hope this helps ...

I hope that you are aware that Ravello is high up in the mountains and thus a 25 minute ride down to the town of Amalfi by bus. From there you can catch a ferry to Capri, Positano, or Sorrento or catch the local bus to some of the towwns on the Amalfi Coast.

We also hiked down to Amalfi. Not bad and took about an hour.

Cumpa Cosimo in Ravello has excellent food. The views from Villa Cimbrone are wonderful. You can also check to see if there are going to be any evening concerts while you are in town.

Ciao

Thanks. Is it easy to do a day trip to Pompeii from there? How about Capri?

POMPEI is about a 2.5 hr journey by public transport from Ravello.

If you can make an early start, there is a DIRECT bus from Amalfi to Pompei.

Otherwise the best way is to take the Amalfi-Sorrento bus as far as META Station (- approx 1hr 15'), then take the train (Circumvesuviana) to Pompei Scavi.

There are hydrofoil and ferry services between Amalfi and CAPRI.

Hope this helps ...

Ciao dpara,

Spend at least one day walking around the area of Scala,Minuta and Pontone which are a pleasant walk away(or bus ride)from Ravello. If you go into the Tourist information office in Ravello next to the Duomo they will give you a free walking map that includes ll the walks from Ravello. From Pontone you can walk to the Torre dello Ziro which has spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast especially of the Town of Atrani and Amalfi. The town of Atrani is a pleasant walk down the via Fuime(a footpath).Pompei can be reached from Amalfi by bus but the services are infrequent so ensure you check the timetables. There are travel agencies in Amalfi that offer day trips by bus to Pompei so it might be more convenient yo go on an organised tour.Buses to and Rome Ravello from Amalfi are on WWW.sita-on-line.it.Boats leave for Capri (WWW.caprionline.com),Salerno.Positano and Sorrento, the Emerald Grotto from Amalfi WWW.coopsantandrea.com You have made a great choice of Hotel, enjoy
