Rain in Venice??????

I'm traveling with my boyfriend to Italy for October and I'm concerned about the weather. I read that is rain season, does anyone know what I should expect? Thanks.

I was there same time last year,I was told October is a rainy time ,changes in the season.I just missed it in Venice but caught 5 or 6 days of severe storms in Rome and Positano. The nice thing about Italy there are plenty of days when your inside museums etc.I was in Maui and it rain 7 out of 11 days, now that really was painful. Have fun and always count your change.

Sure it can rain, plenty, and although Oct. is a bit early for acqua alta it could happen (flooding - an adventure!).

Hello Analil, if you are going to be in Northern Italy in October I would expect rain and electrical storms, which are quite dramatic and interesting to watch.

And yet in our many trips to Italy in October, we've only had rain on one day. Could it be because I always pack an umbrella?

LOL, Jean! Is that the answer, packing an umbrella? I never do. I just borrow an umbrella from a friend. I love the rain and electrical storms usually although at times I have felt like the country roads in the region of Veneto are more like little rivers.

when we were in Venice in June it rained all the time. If you are concerned about rain, pack foul weather gear (slicker or raincoat with hood). I found that an umbrella in Venice is a big pain because the streets are so narrow.

Hi A,

As noted, pack your umbrella and enjoy your visit.

A co-wroker went in October and got rain and acqua-alta. I went in November - had beautiful weather most of the time and no acqua alta (unfortunately).

I was in Venice last October and the forecast called for rain every single day for a week. We never saw a drop, although it was cloudy most days.

Thanks for all your comments. I'll remember to pack an umbrella. Who knows, maybe I'll have the same luck that Jean ;-)
