Racism against Chinese people in Paris?

Parisians are quite excited about the next two weeks when there will be major celebrations of Chinese New Year. The big parades won't take place until next weekend, however.
The rue du Faubourg Saint Denis and the city hall of the 10th arrondissement are decorated with Chinese lanterns every year, and the city hall of the 13th is also festooned with Chinese decorations. All of Place d'Italie, avenue d'Italie and avenue de Choisy are covered with new year's banners in French and Chinese, and the famous (Lao) Tang Frères supermarket is festooned with lights.

My comment "you all look alike" was meant because OP felt that the Japanese were popular and the Chinese were perhaps not,,my friend who is Chinese says no one knows what she is,, Korean, Chinese, Japanese,, just from looking at her,, they just know she is "Asian",,, so if OP feels the Japanese getting treated better simply by being Japanese,, my point is who can TELL if she is Chinese or Japanese,, not many people can.
Just like Americans who feel they get treated differently because they are American,, as opposed to Brits, New Zealanders, Australians or Canadians. No one can tell what race you are just by looking at you.. (in most cases anyways) so don't assume you are being treated a certain way because of your nationality. I am constantly mistaken for American, we wear same clothes brands, speak same language etc. Sometimes a person is treated in a way that they feel is rude or different and ASSUME its a race or nationality thing,, it really may just the person you are dealing with is a jerk to everyone equally,, or having a bad day, or is just plain old burnt out dealing with tourists( so gives a curt reply to a question).

well said, justinparis. it's often tempting to think that it's "us" but the vast majority of the time, they are just grumpy or having a bad day.
