Questions about Ferme de la Huppe in Provence
I'm looking at booking Ferme de la Huppe for a few days in October because of the great reviews here, but I'm concerned that some of the rooms pictured look very dark and you don't get a good feel for the grounds outside. Has anybody stayed there who can tell me what the rooms are like, if the beds and linens are nice? Other options, more upscale, include La Bastide Capelongue, or any other recommemdations?

The room we had was sufficiently light, although the large bathroom was darker but still okay. The beds and linens were fine. Our room, one of the larger ones, was done in rustic style, with old farm implements hung on the walls.
As for the grounds, they're smallish. There's an inner sort-of courtyard between the restaurant and the two stories of rooms, which makes for quiet. In front of the restaurant is the pool, which is quite nice--the grounds there run nearly out to the road.
The place still has the feel of an old farm, which we liked quite a lot.

I can relate to your questions because when we planned our trip last year, they still had no website. Have not checked on this, do they have one yet? I reserved one of their largest rooms on the second floor. It was huge and the bed was a large king, very comfortable. Nice linens and pillows Towels are nice and thick. the room had stone walls and 2 windows that opened. Also a leather couch, chair and smallish tv, 2 end tables and lamps, etc. Very nice. The bathrrom was large, with a new shower stall, large old style tub, and 2 large vanities each with its own sink. Very nice.
I didn't see any other rooms but I would assume the beds would be of good quality as well as the linens. It is an old farmstead so you get that old atmosphere. Our room had the original wide plank floors.
It is on a larger piece of land. The family lives in the back section of the inn. If you look out the side or back windows from upstairs you see their private yard fenced in with the swing set, etc.
Overall it is a quaint classy place. Each night for dinner, they had to turn local partons away! Too full.
I know some of the other options nearby seemed more upscale as far as price was concerned and maybe some fo them were less rustic in their decorating? Can't remember what else I looked at. I am super picky about cleanliness, and the comfort of the bed and the decorating. And I liked our room a lot. Not sure how I would feel about one of their smaller rooms, though.
I am going on too much. Hope this helps. Good luck. At least go to dinner here one night if you can. The food is wonderful and the homemade ice cream is to die for!

I hope the meals are still as good as they were a dozen years ago, when our Canadian hosts in Gordes took us there for dinner.
When we left the region we couldn't think of any better way to thank them than...a pre-paid dinner for four at the Ferme de la Huppe: we arranged it with the Ferme and left our hosts a card telling them they and another couple would be our guests whenever they cared to dine there again....

I am considering staying here next May and was wondering - do any of the rooms have a view?
We are looking to book La Cambra as it is available, and it is the largest room they have to offer (still very reasonably priced at 165 euros a night). Ginny, is this the room you stayed in? Did that room have a view at all? If I am understanding correctly, La Ferme is on the road leading out of Gordes, not on the hill itself.

jenblase,
I just popped in to see what was new here and found our question. The inn is on the flat farm land area surrounding the hill that Gordes is built on. Unfortunately, Gordes is behind the inn but I think we could actually see it from the side window of our second floor room. I don't remember the name of the room. It has its own staircase though so if you email them, maybe you can ask them about it.
Just to repeat, this is a rustic farmhouse inn that has been updated. If you like the more rustic look with nice modern conveniences, this is the place. It is not an "elegant" inn with huge windows overlooking Gordes. If that is something you'd prefer, then check other places. This is about a 10 minute drive from Gordes, down the hills. I would say the main attraction is the dining room food.
We did stop into the lobby of one of the fancier and more expensive hotels - its entry is on the road as you walk into downtown Gordes. Can't remember the name. If we wnated to spend more bucks, we would have liked to stay there!! Great views from up in the hills.
The room we stayed in only had 3 small windows in the bedroom and one in the bathroom. The bedroom had a vaulted ceiling and one of the windows was wayyyyy up high.

We stayed at the Ferme de la Huppe two weeks ago. When I emailed and asked if space were available, I was told which rooms were open and that I could look at them on the web site. Our room, Vers de Soie, was lovely with a terrific bathroom, but it had only two small windows. I'm not sure any of the rooms have a view of Gordes. Since we didn't spend much time in the room, it didn't matter. The grounds are very attractive, as is the pool.

My husband and I stayed at La Ferme de la Huppe last September and loved it. We asked for their nicest room and it was beautiful and spacious. The restaurant closes 2 nights a week, so make sure you are there when it is open. We loved the food and ambiance at La Ferme de la Huppe.

We just came back from Provence and had an incredible meal at Ferme de la Huppe. It was one of my most favorite meals all week. The ambience was wonderful, the food divine. Innovative, but not in the least bit stuffy. I would have gone back a second time but my travelling companions wanted to try a different place. Le clos du Gustave in Gordes, another remarkable gracious place with great food. I was in heaven in Provence, nothing but fresh, tasty meals. I want to wallow in their kitchens....
