Planning my first trip to Paris and want it to be special. What do you think is the best time to go?

My favorite times to be in Paris are October and May.

I prefer September.

We have always gone to Paris late October or early November and in late March. My favorite time is October.

<BR>Basically, anytime, but I'd try to avoid July and August.<BR><BR>I also like it at the end of the year, because there is so much on like theater plays, concerts, etc. But then, weather can be miserable and days are short. <BR>On the bright side, Christmas decorations and the lights all over are superb.

I have to agree that the shoulder seasons are the best - less tourists and less extremes in weather.<BR><BR>Have a great time when you go!

Paris is indeed a treat at any time of year, in any weather. Still, some times are markedly better than others.<BR><BR>Paris is best enjoyed outside: watching people, enjoying shop windows, wandering through neighborhood streets, sitting in glorious parks. Although it can be rainy and cold at any time during the year, the best months for being outside are May-October. <BR><BR>That said, August is, in my mind, the worst month to visit. August is the traditional vacation month in France (though not to the extent that it was 10 or 20 years ago), and many of the smaller shops and restaurants are closed.<BR><BR>One particularly nice thing about visiting in June and late May is that you get so much daylight: it doesn't get dark until 9 or 10pm. Of course, that's also when the city is most crowded with visitors.<BR><BR>February and March can actually be surprisingly good times to visit. You get far more daylight than in November/December, the tourist influx hasn't yet begun, and the city's arts scene (opera, etc.) is in full swing.<BR><BR>So if I had to pick 1 time of year I'd go for early-mid May. It's springtime and the flowers are out, the winter clothes have been put away, and the sun is always shining.<BR><BR>(OK, 2 out of 3 isn't bad.)

I noticed that those of you who selected spring as your favorite time of year to visit Paris narrowed it down to May. Could you please explain why May is favored over June?<BR><BR>I would appreciate your input as to the advantages and disadvantages of bot May and June.<BR><BR>Thanks to all who can help!

April in Paris is a better song title than a peice of advice. I found it too cold.<BR><BR>Same for November, except there's no song I can think of.<BR><BR>I've been there in June, and could not have imagined a better time to visit. Warm enough for no jacket, not hot enough to sweat, easy to walk around, sidewalk cafes were pleasant, ....<BR><BR>On the other hand, if you are given the chance to go to Paris in any other month, it's still a great place even in the rain in December, so go.<BR>BAK

We hardly ever have rain on those trips. The restaurants have great dishes on the menus for fall, cepes and game. <BR>Spring is chilly, windy, and beautiful in its own way-I just like the fall better<BR><BR>
